This book is part of the Religious Life of Man series. The author undertakes the task of explaining and describing several thousand years of human existence. Over a span of 3500 years, very little stays the same. When we talk about Judaism, we have to define whether we mean Judaism today, or Judaism in rabbinic Palestine, or a part of the whole? What are the commonalities in comparison to other religions/cultures? He sets out to define Judaism in terms of world view, a way of life, and a social group. The author remarks that the capacity of Judaic systems drawing upon the Judaism of the dual Torah to come to grips with the acutely contemporary issues of Jews' lives forms the source of these systems' remarkable power to change lives, to bring about change and renewal, to bring about a return yet again to Judaism. This book is an excellent resource for anyone who wants a better understanding of Judaism.
