This wasn't one of my favorite books by Cathy Maxwell, but still a good read. I couldn't make myself like Mary, until near the end of the book, but loved Tye.
blah---lost my interest, couldn't finish it
I have read almost all Cathy Maxwell's novels. One of my favorite authors. This was a great read.
Headstrong Mary Gates longs to once again make the family stables the finest in England--so she bids on the famous Spender stud. The only way to pay for the beast is to marry, but her only prospect in the village is her equally headstrong neighbor and chief rival, Tye Barlow. Mary's been tempted by his masculine charms in the past, but she's determined not to give in to him now. So Mary boldly goes to where the husbands are--London. She succeeds in taking the town by storm, but the marital prospects are uninspiring when compared to Tye. He's followed her...and is clearly determined to thwart her plans at every turn. Still, she can't help but recall his protective embrace whenever they waltz across a ballroom or dream of his tantalizing touch each time they kiss. And soon, Mary realizes she must have to take the greatest gamble of all...
I enjoyed the clash of personalities in this one; headstrong, independent, yet vunerable woman meets determined man.
This is just so much of what a romace book should be. Great book.
Very good book. Interesting story. I finished it very quickly, and enjoyed it.
Mary and Tye are longstanding feuding neighbors, but when Mary must go to London and marry in order to keep her famous stud horse and home intact, Tye follows intending to thwart her plans...
Independent, unconventional, and marriage-averse, Mary Gates will do anything to own the one stallion she knows will restore her family's stables to their former glory. She even bids money she doesn't have a rash action that soon has her off to London to find a rich husband who can foot the bill. But Tye Barlow, her rival for the horse and her family's longtime adversary, follows her to England to make sure she doesn't succeed. There, they end up finding love and a logical solution to their problem.
Moved along at a fast pace. Interesting storyline and nice love scenes.
