A book I requested on 3 Sept arrived today, but the postage label purchased at an APC was dated 30 July--- no other dates were evident as the cancellation marks were just straight lines of ink, not the circular one I am used to.

You can purchase APC postage and use it later. Sounds like that's what happened here.

You'd just leave the postmark date empty because there is none. I've use APC stamps months later quite often. Its a purchased on date, not a post mark.

What they said, UPC is a bit like forever stamps.  You can buy now and use later.  Just leave the date blank on those.

The APC or counter postage dated a week or two after the mailing date?...ugh.

Thanks, since I only use the APC when I'm mailing out Raok packages that need extra postage, I don't use it that often and didn't know I could "hold" the postage to use at a later time.
