I think the one I got today would definitely be a contender.

Broken and exposed spine-  +5 points!

Ripped pages - +5 points!

Booger on inside cover- +15 points!

Suspicious stains on nearly every page- +20 points!

Burnt page- +5 points!

Creative teeth mark pattern on front and back cover- +30 points!

I guess I jinxed myself the other day when I said the books I'd been receiving were in generally excellent condition.

ETA: I'm not really ranting. I've received really great books from PBS. Part of me is sort of amused at just how many posting rules one little book broke.

I am so sorry and I agree, you are the "winner" of the worst book. I hope that the person gets your credit back to you quickly! You might also send them a link to the book conditions guidelines in the help center so thay will know what is postable in the future.

Yup. I sent them a link to the guidelines in my PM after marking it RWAP.  On a positive note: there was no water damage. Always gotta look on the bright side, I guess. :)

well, maybe this one book "pre-disastered" you so that all the bad things happened at once and now every other book will be okay.  Too bad it wasn't water-damaged as well!  LOL!!  ;D

Ruth

ETA - if it were water damaged as well - all your bases would be covered!  I didn't mean it's too bad it wasn't water-damaged just because!

Wow I thought I had the worst book ever with torn cover, first 5 pages torn almost to shreds, water damage, and on TOP of that, it was the wrong ISBN! But boogers and teeth marks beat anything I have heard here other than the book that reeked of cat piss.

Ugh, so sorry to hear that!  I think if I opened up a book to find boogers, I'd probably gag!  EWW  So sorry!

Not discounting the loss of a credit for this book, but ..... ya know that is rather funny. It makes ya wonder what in the world this book endured all it's life! Broken, beaten and abused... poor book. :( I'm glad you Rescued this poor book.

Ok, now, I just have to say..having gotten both a booger book and a teeth mark book (and a few other interesting things)...I really think the boogers deserve more points. ;-)

It's so nice you have a sense of humor about it, :-), and I have to agree.....you win!

I'm sorry you even had to get that book. Obviously the person who posted it CAN'T READ or at the very least scored a ZERO on reading comprehension in school, since they obviously couldn't understand the PBS posting guidelines. Oy.

Don't you wonder though--was the booger or the teeth marks there first??

What no teriyaki sauce?  Sorry just  a joke that went around the library workers many years ago. It seemed to be the one substance the alot of books were getting stained with..LOL We thought it was the same person doing it until we noticed it was too widely spread.  If its a brown stain then it might be teriyaki :)  The other joke was, what no used kleenex, I've been ripped off!

Were the teeth marks animal or human? ;-)

Oh, the booger is definitely worth more than 15 points!

Not suprisingly, the sender is claiming the book was fine when she mailed it. Uh huh. My letter carrier must have bled on it, blew his nose on it, and chewed it a little. I offered to send her the photos that I took in my original PM, but to no avail.

I doubt I'll be getting my credit back.

Was the booger near the teeth marks? If they are within an inch of each other than definitely, more than 15 points should be awarded.

I personally wouldn't want to know what those suspicious stains were.

How do you know it was a booger stain? Did you compare it to the contents of your own nose? Ha...I'm only teasing...I've seen enough boogers in my lifetime to pick a booger stain out of a line up.

Once I received a book that had a mysterious brown stain on the inside front cover. I feared what it might be so I did what anyone else would've done...I sniffed it...deeply. It was not what I thought it was, thank god. It was just some type of chocolate fudge...possibly caramel.

I'm surprised that there aren't lots of books with chocolate stains. ;D  I've given up eating and drinking while reading a book I want to post to PBS!

LOL!  I just offered up a copy of A Thousand Splendid Suns in the book bazaar because I was careless and left a couple of chocolate prints on it.  I got carried away with the story and wasn't as careful as I should have been.  :)

Yuck!  Let her know you'll mark it "unresolved" if you don't receive a positive response by a certain date.  Yuck, yuck yuck.
