I checked the passport stamp for a book I just received, and it says it's only made one trip so far (from the sender to me).  It came from Illinois to Georgia, and it says that it travelled 5,834 miles.  Huh?!  Why would it say that?  No big deal, I'm just curious - that's a long trip, lol!  Does anyone else have some that are showing crazy numbers?

Was it sent media mail? If so, media mail isn't always a direct route. I never worked for the U.S Postal service, so I don't know why it's like that. I once tracked a package I sent to from New England to Cali. First it went way down south to FL...then to Tennessee...then to Chicago...then one more stop in the Southwest before coming to its final destination in Cali. That book traveled to more states than I did.

Mike, I wondered if that might have been the case.  There was no delivery confirmation, so I couldn't check to see where it had been, so who knows!  Apparently my book is now pretty well traveled!  =P
