Living here in the middle (more or less) of the country, I am lucky in that I have never had a book take more than six days to get to me and most books get here in three or four days. I have been waiting for a book that I requested on June 1st. Last Wednesday I checked the "Details" because I thought I remembered that the book had been mailed on the 4th and I hadn't received it yet. Sure enough, the computer says that the book was sent on the 4th. ***** TODAY I looked again but really paid attention. Although the book was supposedly "sent" on June 4th, the labels weren't even printed until the 12th. Go figure. **eye roll** I completely understand that life can get in the way of a trip to the post office, but a quick PM would go a long way toward the person at the other end feeling okay about the situation. **rant over**

I had one where it said it was posted, and I didn't get it, and finally got the message from PBS asking if I'd received it, which I hadn't and when I went back to the Details, found it hadn't even been posted until after the query was made.  It was only coming through 2 states (like you I live in the middle of the country).
I thought that a short PM stating that they'd forgotten to mail or whatever was in order, but never heard a word from the person.  That's life, I guess.  Pat

LeeAnne, you can open the label after having mailed the book, and for some reason the system resets the date to the last time you looked at it, not the date you actually printed it. So, I can:

print a label on June 1

mail the book on June 2

reopen the label on June 10 to find out where its going b/c it seems to be taking so long

and the system will reset the "label printed" date to June 10

So it doesn't necessarily mean that the person didn't mail the book until then. It *could* mean that, but it doesn't *definitely* mean that.

I wouldn't worry too much about a book that was mailed on June 1. It's probably just stuck in the black hole that is the Warrendale, PA postal distribution center. I've had books get stuck there for as many as 10 days before.

I don't think you can click on the Books Has Been Mailed button until you print out the wrapper anyway.

Or Stafford, VA, Or Richmond, Va.  I really prefer that my DH mail my books from Alexandria, VA, because they have their own clearing house and it is much faster than anywhere else in this state!  Unfotunately  (or fotunately, for us), he only physically goes to the office 3 times a week.  The mail travels and itenerary is very strange. Some mail in VA has to go to another state to be redircted to VA!!  That means there is lots of room for a media mail book to get side-tracked.

That's good info to have, Bren. As I said, this was a "mild rant". It's not like I don't have anything to read, LOL! This book has just taken twice as long as any other to get here...and it's not here!

I clicked on a couple of books I'm waiting for and they showed as having been "mailed" days after they first marked them as mailed.  I figure it's a default when the sender tries to see what's going on.

Wow, Crystal!  How are ya doing?  You are VERY close to me.  Are there any PBS meet-ups close by?  I can't believe that a book mailed from Blacksburg had to go to MD first - that's not even close to Blackburg.  The sender of my book lived down in a tiny place close (right on) to the NC border so I can understand that.  Send me a PM!  Only if you want to, though! ;D
