i bring this up because my girlfriend and i were shopping in Wally World the other day.

there were 2 women, one pretty overweight and one slightly overweight. they were both driving around those motorized carts. there was nothing wrong with them because i saw them stand up and get stuff off the top shelf and walking up and down an aisle looking at toys.... nothing wrong with them except they were fat and lazy.

ouch i said the f word...fat. well they were. i am fat. i am about 100 lbs overweight... for my height they say. im about 215 lbs at 5' tall. i am big. but i am not going to get a motorized cart to drive around walmart when i see elderly folks that need that chair..or even if no one else needs it. things like that really annoy me because people that see this do what is normal..they will assume that all fat folks are lazy. and we arent. heck, i even park in the back of the parking lot at work and walk to my building ( i work at a hospital so you can imagine how big the parking lot is)....

sorry had to get that off my chest. so have you been really annoyed by anything lately? feel free to rant here.

I went to a friend's play the other night.  Standing in line for the bathroom at intermission, and elderly man in a wheelchair with his son was trying to get through the crowded hallway to the handicapped men's room.  Ok, the hallway's really crowded, everyone manages to maneuver out of this man's way.... except this one a$$.  He starts complaining that the wheelchair rolled over his foot, he won't move out of the way even one inch after several polite requests.  Finally I told him to just freakin' move to the side for a second so the man in the wheelchair can get past, then everyone else in the hallway chimes in saying the same thing.

I'm fat and I have rheumatoid arthritis.  I can only go shopping at places that have those carts because I can't walk the whole store.  It is just too painful and it is a MAJOR effort.  I need knee replacement surgery and have plantar fasciitis and a whole slew of other things that goes with the RA.  My disease doesn't show on the outside, even though I do have a handicapped placard and have been "officially" disabled for the last 6 years.  I'm sure people look at me and just see a big, fat, lazy ass who can't be bothered to push a cart like everyone else.  I would give anything to have my mobility and health back, but this is the way it is and there isn't a whole lot I can do about it.  I can lose weight, have multiple surgeries, but I'll still be disabled,  I'll still have pain, and I'll still have to ride a damn cart to go shopping.

No wonder I never leave the house anymore.  People say just let other's ignorance go, but it hurts to be judged when people don't even know you or your story.  Instead of getting angry and judging, try some compassion.  Sure, there are people who ARE just "fat and lazy," but I wouldn't presume to make that judgement just on what I see from a few minutes in a store.

Not all disabilities are visible.

ETA:  Kristy, I reread your post.  I agree that people shouldn't think a whole group of people are one way because of the actions of a few.  I don't want you to think my post above was an attack on you--it wasn't--it was an attack on the attitudes of people who judge others.

I think what annoys me about other people more than anything else is that they assume things about me.  They assume I am not married because I don't usually wear my ring, they assume I am Christian, celebrate THEIR Holidays, that I am straight, they probably assume I'm lazy because I'm fat (they are sort of right there - ha!  I could be a lot more active...), that I am poor because I wear comfortable, inexpensive clothing, and that I share their prejudices, particularly about immigrants or people outwardly different from myself.

The other thing that annoys me are people who think they come first when it's not their turn, that they don't have to wait like everyone else.

I'm generally not annoyed by most people, but those two things do bother me on bad days...

ah well lilda, they didnt have a handicapped tag on their vehicle and were not parked in a handicapped parking place... and they carried their bags fairly easily to their car. they were no bigger than i am. and i have scoliosis, my back seizes all the time and i have bad knees and ankles... and i still dont get one of those carts. i also suffer from dizzy spells, that i dont know what they are from. And yes, ive hit the floor because of them. i have a list of health issues. but to me, at age 36, i have no room and no place to feel sorry for myself. i am still capable. these two women were younger than me by far, more than capable of walking around the store for the length of time they were there. it is a very small town so it isnt too hard to see the same person repeatedly through, plus we were both shopping for kids.  plus like i said, they walked up and down the aisles... no limp, no slowness, no unsureness in their steps. even i have a slight hesitation in my walk.

and no, i dont take it as an attack. i like verbal back and forths... as long as we are both respectful of one another's feelings.

oh and..i have a very good friend that is about 500lbs and she refuses to take the motorized cart as well... beautiful woman by the way.

I was just thinking about this question yesterday. Two of the things that have popped in my mind lately that really annoy me are

A) Fake grass

B) People that spit on sidewalks.

Spitting is disgusting.  How anyone can think it's ok to spit in public is beyond me.

I have heard it's a psychological substitution for ejaculation.  So when you see some guy spit on the sidewalk, just remember - he's not getting any! ;)

I'm just waiting for Charlie to come back with a response to L's theory about spitting. hehe.

Highly dsyfunctional needy people who talk about themselves all the time & don't know when to stop talking!

(This came to mind because we just got back home a bit ago from cleaning/painting the new space for our GLBT center & one of the volunteers is like this & drives me batty after about 5 minutes.  So I finally put my headphones on, cranked my ipod & painted walls in one of the offices by myself.)

And again... driving home today on the highway someone goes careening by a line of cars, he or she's doing at least 75mph in a 55-zone and the bumper sticker on the back of the car reads: "Why worry? God's in control"

I hope he's in control of your freakin' car, since you're obviously not!

Well, Kristi, it sounds as if those 2 gals were abusing the use of the carts.  That's a shame, especially if someone who really needed it had to wait because of their laziness.  Oh, yeah, when I get off of a cart it is painfully obvious that I needed it--heck, after 20 minutes on one, my joints gel up and I'm miserable anyway.  I agree about people constantly whining about their physical problems--it is one thing to mention it in the course of a conversation, but there are some people that can't talk about anything but their illnesses.  I have sympathy, but geez, people....

Another thing that annoys me--people who throw their used baby diapers on the ground.  Gross.

LOL Vanessa!

Tammy, I am with you, on the diapers - the most horrifying thing is when they leave them on the BEACH.

I ditto L about the assuming. I HATE when people assume stuff about me. I live in NW TX and everyone thinks I'm a minority hating republican christian.

I also hate when people ask why we don't have another child yet (my son is 28 months). They think I should be pregnant and barefoot all the time. When I actually try to explain that I have fertility issues they ARGUE  with me that I don't because I already have one child so I couldn't possibly. I also hate when people roll their eyes at me when I say we're running out of time. Just because some people wait until their 30s or 40s to have kids doesn't mean I want to or that it's right for us.

I hate when people assume that since I'm young-ish and not in colloge that I'm an idiot.

I hate when people find out hubby and I eloped that it was because I was pregnant. Hubby's best friend's mom actually said this to our faces. Then when we had J 9 months after we were married she told her DIL that we were lieing about him being a preemie because we didn't want people to think we got married because I was knocked up. She didn't believe us until she saw how little he was.

I hate that since I'm now married to a man people assume that I "went through a 'lesbian' phase".

lol I guess a lot of things annoy me!

Oh yes, I love (NOT) the people when you tell them say for example that you are allergic to any & all kind of nuts, says, yea but my best friend is too & she ate this food I made that has crushed up almonds in it & she was fine.  This actually happened to one of my co-workers who is deathly allergic to nuts & the woman totally ignored what my co-worker said & still brought in the food item that she had made (and no my co-worker wasn't going to eat anything this woman brought her to eat, because she also has some other food allergies).  I call this person a PITA (pain in the a$$).  Doesn't listen to others, has no clue she's being rude or disruptive, always has an answer for everything, just a general PITA.

got a couple of new annoyances today

1-being late for work....dang cat stepped on my clock sometime last night and somehow reset the alarm!... thankfully i was only 3 minutes late. but i still dislike that.

2- loose change or keys jingling in someone's pocket. they cant help it but it drives me insane like chinese water torture of my eardrum

3- coworkers or students that cant stand to be around 'sick' people. you are in the medical profession or going to school for it if you are at my job... why did you go into this field if you cant stand sick people??? pick another career!!!

4-hunting season for deer- i dont hunt. but what i hate is that during this season if when you see the most traffic accidents involving deer. it's like they think they have a better chance with a car than with the hunter in the woods... break for the highway boys!

What annoys me...

1) People assuming they know my sexual orientation and gender.  They are never correct.

2) People assuming my partner is my father, but that my mother is my sister.  (Can "I'm my own grandpa" be far behind?)

3) No one can guess my age, but everyone makes assumptions.  The movie theater people assuming that I am under 13 when I go (I have to prove that I am not), yet no one cards me when I order an alcoholic beverage even though they are supposed to card people who look under 40.  I had a professor who only knew me via a distance class who assumed I was in my 50s.  I'm 27.

4) No one believes my allergies.  My doctors don't believe I am allergic to certain drugs.  My grandmother doesn't believe I am highly allergic to green tea and a few other things, she also doesn't believe I am allergic to birds.  Going anywhere around her is an adventure in trying to avoid an ambulance ride to the hospital.  She gave me a gift on Friday, most of it I am allergic to.

5) Theme parks that overuse strobe effects.  I learned that one this weekend when I went to Universal Studios and there was a sign on nearly every single ride that warned people about strobes.  Of course, they didn't say that until you were far in the line.  Guess who shouldn't be around strobes?  I gave my partner the look of death several times throughout this weekend.  No seizures though thank god.

6) The biggest one is waitresses never asking if you want dessert and handing you a bill before they even give you your food.  I went on a rant on that subject for over an hour last night.
