In the discussion forums, I sometimes see posts that just say "bump". What does that mean? I am assuming (please correct me if I'm wrong) that it means the writer has edited out whatever his request was and means for the reader to just ignore his post now. Why can't we just delete old posts instead?

'Bump' is a post added for the sole purpose of 'bumping' the thread to the top of the forum.  To move your topic back to the front of the line (or back to page one).
