This is the first site in which I have heard of Chick Lit books and I was just wondering what books they consist of or what exactly are they?

They are light hearted books written for women, usually about romance, friendship, etc. It is the literary equivalent of a "chick flick." Not literary genius but entertaining for a weekend or a vacation.

Some authors of Chick Lit are Sophie Kinsella, Elizabeth Noble, Jennifer Weiner, Lauren Weisberger.

psst- I have some in my bookshelf and I posted on the Book Bazaar that I will do a 2 for 1 deal, if you order 1, PM me with the one you want for free.

Awww I love chick lit books. I like all fiction (for the most part) and when I need a funny, light read that is what I pick up. Red Dress Ink is a publishing company that publishes chick lit books. I have never read a bad book that they have put out. There are several on PBS if you just look up Red Dress Ink. Many of their authors are English so you get to read with an accent too. lol

Check out the Chick-Lit forum. There are many more suggestions. :)

DD reads mostly chick lit books she likes Candace Bushnell of Sex in the City fame, yes it was a book first.

And for more hefty reads is Penny Vincenzi she adds a bit of mystery and suspense to her novels.  I guess it could be called "chick lit" but it's officially listed as contemporary fiction I think. The first one she read was Sheer Abandon. I may get around to reading one someday but I have so many other books on my TBR pile.

Not all "chiick lit' is fluff IMO

If you are interested, I'd suggest Emily Giffin.

She's a little new to the realm, but she is great.

Hmm, this might be just what I am looking for to get my 13 yo reading.  Any suggestions that are rated PG?

They're not all light-hearted. Marian Keyes' books actually deal with some very tough topics.

Thank you so much, I like the Erynn Mangum idea, actually I may order 1 new because it has the spiritual side to it.

Thanks again.

Dianne, I found a section of Amazon that has a list of books for young adult girls.

Listmania

And of course there's the Newberry Awards A Wrinkle in Time was probably my favorite back in those days.  I liked science fiction when I was younger.
