It seems that since the Market place was introduced that I have  had fewer items from my wish list available for trade. There have been a lot of items on the wish list available to buy in the market place. What determines if a book is posted for trade or put in the market place.

The Market Place seems to be mostly remainders, which are books being liquidated by the publisher for one reason or another (isn't selling well, new edition pending, paperback version pending, etc.).  So, what titles are available would depend upon what titles publishers make available as remainders.

What determines if a book is posted for trade, of course, depends entirely upon a PBS member deciding to post their copy.

The marketplace is a way for PBS to earn money without charging a membership fee.  In the case of WL books it might help some lines move faster and people may decide to buy the WL from PBS and then post it into the system when they're done.

PBS itself does not post and mail out books.  Although the runners of the site might have their own personal trading accounts.  But they have nothing to do with the marketplace.

The Marketplace books are new books.  Remaindered, so maybe scuffed from a store shelf, but new.

I think the opposite might be true, that books available in the Marketplace move faster FIFO.  IMO members buy their wishlisted books from PBS to support the site, then when finished post them back FIFO.
