I got a book I mailed out with PBS DC and postage returned to me today - it looks like someone DELIBERATELY removed the TO: part of the address label - it's been cut out but the rest of the wrapper is absolutely fine! I can't reprint the wrapper because the postage has been cancelled and I'm assuming I can't use the same postage bar code and DC label twice. I really want to show it to my local postmaster before I send it back out but why would someone at the post office have done this?

Oh and I forgot to mention when I checked the DC tracking info it doesn't show that the item was returned to sender, it shows the item as having been successfully delivered - back to me!

Will PBS let you reprint the label?  I would either reprint the label or write the address down and take it to your PO and ask what happened. I would not just rewrap it and mail it out.

you might want to PM the other member and see if anything happened on their end.  And to let them know what happened and that you are looking into mailing it again.

You should definitely show it to the postmaster at your Post Office and see what they think.

If PBS system allows, I would reprint the label.  Then take it to your local post office and request an explaination.  I've no idea what they were thinking of...any legitimate problem should have been noted, stamped, or written on the package without cutting or defacing the addy.  IMO something sounds fishy, and you shouldn't have to pay for additional postage without a very good answer...at the very least.

ETA - can you tell how far the package travelled before it was returned?  Was your local PO the problem, or a facility farther away?

The package made it from my post office to the nearest distribution center, then turned around and came right back to me. Never even made it out of my state. It was "on the road" for 6 days.

Well I took it in to remail it and they did it at their expense but my postmaster had NO idea what had happened. She said she absolutely KNOWS it didn't happen in HER post office and it must have happened at the distribution center. She was really nice and apologetic about it though.  She just told me to reprint the label and tape it back on and then she stuck one of those date update labels on and that was all there was to it.

Unfortunately, it's true your local post office has very little control over what happens to your mail in other facilities.  Kuddos for her positive attitude and quick resolution of your situation tho!
