Fruit of the Loom keeps popping in my crazy head. Thanks for answering such a general question that I have no clue what it means. |

Yuppers, Friends of the Library. FOL groups in many areas hold annual or semi-annual book sales...great places to pick up swap books. |

The libraries around here have full time stores inside the library where you can buy donated books. The sales raise Money for the library. |

I am a volunteer in our FOL used bookstore named "Bookends". It is open whenever the library is open but is only staffed a few hours a day. We have a secure money box attached to the wall near our doorway that you pay on the honor system. We can't make change since it is a locked box, but we do accept checks, even for very small amounts. Our income does NOT go to the library but we pay for the free programs the library sponsors--- all children's story hours, teen programs (we are located next door to a HS), special summer events, and adult biography writing workshops called "Our Story", as well as annual volunteer recognition dinner. We also hold an annual book and media sale, sometimes in NOV and sometimes in July (depends on access to the community rooms for a 2 day FRI/SAT sale). Since our community rooms are used as a polling place and voting seems to go on forever in FL, we can be locked out of our own space for many weeks in a row when it's an election year. |

Our FOL buys books for the library as well as sponsoring events. The money does not go into the general fund. |

Also called FotL sales by some people. |

Thanks to everyone for explaining this to me. Now I have to go to my local library and see about FOL. Guess thats how I find out about FOL in my area. |

You can find a lot of FOL sales in your state on this site. Just click on your state on the map. I used this site a lot to find local FOL sales. http://www.booksalefinder.com/

not every library has an FOL.....they take a lot of volunteers to run the organization, plus you have to have enough income from the book sales to make it worthwhile. The library back in Il where I grew up doesn't do sales.......they simply put books for sale on some library carts and have those sitting as you come in the doors near the check-out counter. You just pay the library staff before you leave. Last Edited on: 6/22/14 9:51 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
