he died in 1998 according to stopyourekillingme.com

1. For the continuation of the McNally series after Sanders’ death, see Vincent Lardo - but there hasn't been one since 2004

I used to love Lawrence's books but haven't read many of the McNally books. I read many of the earlier ones though. Great stuff! It was a big loss with his death.

This was one of my favorite series too.  I thought Vincent Lardo did a very good job continuing the series, so I'm not sure what happened to it :(

Can someone tell me the order of the McNally books? I want to start reading them in order. I LOVE L. Sanders.... his books got me into the genre and I still think he's the best.

I absolutely love the McNally series!  I never actually "read" them, but I listened to them on tape (yeah, real cassette tapes, it was a long time ago...lol) when I had a long commute for work.

Has anyone read the subsequent books written by Lardo?  Did you like them as well?

I loved Archie.  I've actually been putting off reading the last - McNally's Bluff for the longest time.  It's gotten near the top of the pile so I'll be reading it soon.

Sailorlady - I've read them all and thought that Lardo did a fine job but he isn't Sanders.  At least we didn't lose Archie until 2004.

I like the Archie books by Lardo about as well. They're certainly worth reading if you like the series. In fact, i wish Lardo would write some more. Another series by Sanders that I would recommend would be The Timothy Files and Timothy's Game, each containing three novellas about the detective work of Timothy Cone.

I second your recommendation of the Timothy books. I wish there'd been more of them.
