I ordered a book 17 May. It was marked mailed from Louisville 20 May. The green enroute bus symbol has been sitting near my location (Siloam Springs, Arkansas) for at least four days. I check on its path (green arrow) today, and it says it was accepted at Louisville yesterday. I am at a loss to figure out what is going on.

Yes, it would appear this book was mailed late.  Are you checking it on here, PBS or on the Postal website?

Were there any scans before the acceptance? The map just guesses at where the book is until it gets an actual scan, so it may not have left Kentucky yet. I agree with the others that say it was probably mailed late.

I've got an odd one as well. Mine was mailed on time and made it to within 100 miles of my So Cal location, but it's now crossed the country again and is wandering around random eastern states.

It is getting screwier by the day. Here is what the record says:

5/20    Label created                      Louisville, Ky
2/21    electronic shipping info received          Louisville, Ky
5/30    Acceptance                          Louisville. Ky.
5/31    Enroute                                 Warrendale, Pa

If she is now shipping my book, the one I have already been deducted a credit for, to someone else I will scream and holler at the PBS powers that be.

Warrendale is the ground mail processing facility for louisville. usps operates facilities on a hub-and-spoke program. they wouldn't have direct flights/trucks from louisville to whatever is the nearest big city in Arkansas. Sorry I don't know what your nearest plant (facility) is, been retired 3 years and a lot has changed in that time.

Very strange, since it is quite a ways NE of Louisville, and not a very big city. Not surprising, though. Any ground mail coming into Arkansas goes through Memphis. I call the place The Jaws of Memphis, since what they often do to a package is almost hard to believe. Leaving my town, almost on the Oklahoma line in NW Arkansas, a truck picks up ground mail daily and takes it to LIttle Rock, where another larger  truck operated by the same company (Pat Salmon and Sons) takes it in the wee hours of the next morning to Memphis. PBS books to Kansas, 100 miles NW as the crow flies, will take the same route East  to Memphis, than on another truck backwards to Kansas City or Tulsa, then to its destination, travelling 600 miles to get less than 100.

No wonder the USPS loses money.
