Hi,

I'm pretty new and was wondering what happens if you don't check received for a book.  I have two different cases - 1.  I had the wrong book sent to me (no big deal - person was real sweet) and the delivery confirmation states delivered.  I'm waiting for my book to show up and didn't know what the system when it's past the date listed.  2.  I've mailed 4 books and the dc state that they were received by they haven't been marked.  Assuming they did get to the right address, what happens if they don't mark them received?

TIA for your help!

Suzanne

Give the ones you sent a few days.  They may have been received at the persons post office and have not been sent to their house yet.  As for the one that you are waiting for.  Don't mark it received until you have the book.  It will go 'lost', but thats ok.  When it finally gets to you all you have to do is go to your transaction page and mark it received there.  BUT, once it goes lost, the book will be automatically requested from someone elses shelf, so you need to watch for it and cancel that request.

For you receiveing the wrong book, yes, please wait to mark the correct one received, even if it means the book will go lost.  Once the correct book does arrive, you can go to your Transaction Archive and mark it received and the sender will get their credit.  Please note that when it goes lost, you will get a credit back and once you mark it received, that credit will go to the sender.

As for books you have sent not being marked received, the same thing sort of happens.  The receiver will get their credit back because they have not yet received the book and if it arrives you will get a credit when they mark it received.

Also remember that sometimes DC is scanned at the receiver's local post office and will be marked as arrived even though it could take a couple more days for it to get to their actual house.

just another thought on the DC saying they've gotten it- they may have a community mailbox where mail is delivered & they may not check it daily.  I know for me even though the mailbox is only a block away I don't check it everyday (unless of course I'm anxiously awaiting something lol), plus my mailman is never here before my kids dinnertime so things almost always sit in there overnight.
