Hi -  I just have a question - I ordered a book from swapper and was part of 2 for 1 deal.  My account shows books mailed back in Sept but I never received PM acknowledment of original deal.   Also since then I have yet to receive books.  Keep getting message from PBS asking if received book yet and also sent swapper message asking if possibly she received books back from post office or if there was delay in mailing.  As of yet I have received no response.   It's not really big deal - books were not wishlist but still some type of response would be appreciated.  If for some reason I never receive books what happens? Do I get my credit back or do I just forget it and reoder from someone else?

Please help clarify - it's possible there is legitmate reason for long delay but I would think that PM explanation would be sent?

PBS will mark it as lost once the estimated delivery date has passed.  You will get your credit back automatically at that point.

And yes, there might be a legitimate reason for the delay.  The books may very well have been lost in the mail (it does happen sometimes).  The sender might have had an emergency or something, too.

But, you will get your credit back once it goes officially lost.  If you still want the book, don't re-order it until that happens.

Thanks for info Terri.

I just which I could get some type of response.  I had a swapper some time ago PM me about delay sending me book due to financial problems.  She asked that I mark book received since she could really use credits to request books for her kids.  In good faith, I marked received and eventually I did receive books.  It's just very strange that I never received any acknowledgement of originally deal.  Swapper just accepted and that was it.

Thanks again for your info

Patty, that was nice of you to mark that one book received but what if they never mailed it?  you would have been out the credit.  Plus if she was in a huge hurry for her books she needs to use delivery confirmation and PBS postage which will give her the credits automatically.

while she wanted to order a book for her kids she should have waited, I can't imagine that it was that big of an deal that it couldn't wait.

Yes I took a chance but had faith that she would eventually send books.  I was also getting a 3 for 1 deal on books.  I was just happy that she took time to advise me of delay - she also stated she would understand if I cancelled order and no longer wanted books.  I'm not sure why I took a shot and gave credit but maybe just feeling good that day.  Turned out good and hopeing that my kindness helped brighten her day.

PBS advises to wait at least 2 wks before reordering a book that has gone lost in the mail incase it shows up.  Sometimes they show up months after being mailed.

if it was a deal that she posted in the Bazaar she may have confirmed there that she accepted the deal.

I agree that no response to your pms is annoying, but I have seen people post before about being aggravated about receivers contacting them before time runs out, so maybe your person is one of those.  Technically, it still could be perfectly on it's way, having been mailed on time and everything.

As for waiting the two weeks to re-order, here's my thoughts.  If you've been in contact with someone, they're telling you it's on it's way, and you both just figure media mail is doing it's late thing, then yeah, I think it's nice to wait awhile and give it a chance to show up.  But, if you've got someone who is non-responsive and doesn't answer to a query about a book that went lost then I say go right ahead, don't wait any longer.  If it shows up after you've re-ordered then it's sender #1 who's out a credit and you've moved on with your life.

That's my feeling.  I usually don't contact anyone until about 24 hrs. before a book is about to go lost, then just send a casual query- anything I should know about the mailing date? We're about to have a book go lost....etc.

Hopefully it will be there soon!

If you reorder a book that went lost and the lost one also arrives you still have to mark it received.  They spent the postage, sent the book and should still get their credit even if they didn't respond to your PM.  This is not true if they neglected to mark the book mailed and the system ordered you another one.
