Okay, I'm doing what my DH would call "pre-worrying."  This hasn't happened yet, I'm just curious what would happen.

My PO is extremely fast sometimes (not complaining) and often the books I send are confirmed by the PO in a matter of hours.  Sometimes I don't get home from the post office very fast, so I wonder...what happens?

I'm sure I'm just being a worry wart.  indecision

We'll wait for better confirmation, but I think you're OK Lisa.  I think the system just credits you when you mark them mailed.  Used to be different, and if the 'acceptance' scan beat your 'mailed' notification you would have to wait for the next 'enroute' scan before the credits transferred.

Yep, you'll be fine.  I've done that several times where I'll mail first thing in the morning but not mark it sent until later in the evening.  Just means there's not much lag of the credit being added to your account.

Any scans uploaded into PBS prior to you marking them received would not trigger the Quick Credit. You would need to wait for the next scan for the credit to trigger. Usually USPS doesn't upload that quickly so it the scan won't beat you here, but if you notice that the first scan isn't triggering the Quick Credit that could be the problem.

  • Mark your book mailed as soon as possible after mailing!
    • If the first scan happens before the book is marked mailed on the PBS site, it will not "count" to earn credit.
    • Only scans after a book has been marked mailed will grant QuickCredit.
      • You are usually fine if you mark the book mailed within 2-3 hours of having mailed it, even if you watched the postal employee scan the barcode at the counter.  That counter scan went into that PO's computer, and there is a variable delay before the information is transmitted to the USPS main computer, and then to PBS.
      • The scan transmission can happen within a hour in some cases--if you find that your PO has a habit of quick-transmission of scan date, you can just mark your books mailed right before you go out to mail them.

Or you can mark them mailed before you take them to the Post Office.

This should not be an issue with PBS postage, as it trusts that you mailed when you mark it. But I've had some PBS eDC that was delayed in getting credit because the post office uploaded the data before I clicked the button.

Huh, weird.  Several times I've delayed marking shipped for a few hours after doing so and then receive the quick credit email within minutes of marking it as shipped.

This applies to the eDC, not PBS postage.  It depends on when your post office scans AND when they upload the data.  Many POs are scanning less often, waiting until the package reaches the sorting hub.  But going to the counter will result in a scan.

So there is a record of the scan, but the credit is delayed until the next scan.  (Not sure if the PO changes made in January have made this different.)

Yep, I just use the eDC (again, lazy regarding weighing items).  All items are done through the counter and scanned at the time of drop off.  I'll have to test the next one that I do and see what happens.

My local branch does not upload the scans until about 7 PM.  They show up as grey "Pending" check marks.

I used to wait til I had actually mailed books to mark them mailed. I did have a few delayed credits when I was using just PBS DC if a scan took place AND there was a communication between the PBS computer and the USPS computer system before I marked it mailed...it would sometimes be 2 or 3 days before that scan would come up at PBS and I'd get credit. (I would mail the book and because I didn't have access at work, had to wait til I got home to mark mailed several hours later.) Mind you, this was about 3 years or possibly more ago...not sure if that's still an issue or not. But it's what prompted me to start marking mailed BEFORE I leave the house instead and I've kept up that routine even though it's a non-issue for me now because I use the full PBS postage and get instant credit anyway.

Regarding the OP ... Yes, you will receive your auto transfer credit!  Opinions on when seem to vary a bit, but it will definately happen lol. angel

Thanks for the responses!  I guess I was worried about not receiving the credit at all.  I've been so curious about this.  I generally don't like to mark books as mailed before I get them to the Post Office - I know, I know, it's a superstitious thing I've got going.  blush

I share your superstition Lisa, and almost never mark the books mailed until I return home from the post office.  Once in a great while something comes up and I do not mark them until after the USPS download, so I've had to wait for the next scan to receive my credit.  But don't worry, the credits will transfer for you!!

Tested one today, it was mailed out at lunch time and I just now got home to mark it mailed at 10:50PM.  The credit instantly came through even though it was scanned much earlier today (showing on credit registry).
