I'd send a PM. Perhaps the books arrive while they were on vaca?

Were all 4 sent together? Give them a little time in ase they went on vacation . At least give them until tomorrows' mail has been delivered, then send them a polite PM asking if the books arrived OK.

You got your credits so why do you need to PM. They could have PO boxes they don't check everyday, on vacation or a post office that scans before actual delivery.

They will receive messages from PBS.  Personally, I'd skip the PMs.

I find that most people do not mark the books received right away. Most usually get marked received 1-2 days after the DC says it was delivered, some others take their good old time about it. I tend not to worry about it, they all get marked received eventually. Almost always within a week of the "official" delivery.

I see plenty of books that I ordered for myself showing up as "delivered" in the transaction details, when I haven't gotten it yet. The lady at my P.O. told me that they often scan and mark packages as delivered when they put them on the truck that will be making the final delivery. Sometimes that truck will not go out until the next day, or will even sit over the weekend.

In our area, DC is scanned 'delivered' at the mailbox.

But many people are still enjoying summer vacations and activities Bertie.  I'd wait at least 5 days (or close to the lost date) before pming.  I currently have one in a similar situation, pm'd the member and let her know if the book hasn't been received I am willing to follow up with USPS to help locate her book.  Most likely she's out of town tho,  IIRC she regularly visits out of town family.  But if that's not the case, I want to do everything I can to make sure she receives the book she requested.

Since we're on the DC topic, I have a question if no one minds answering. I've heard that you'll still get your credit if you use DC, even if the book hasn't been officially received  yet. So what happens to the receiver if they never get the book? Do they get their credit back, even though DC said the book has been delivered?

Yep, they get their credit back and you keep your credit.  Sometimes books are misdelivered and the person never actually got the book even though it was scanned as delivered.  I have a PO box and they still manage to lose my mail after it is marked delivered occasionally.

This has happened to me before as well.  The one time the book went 'lost' I did get my credit back.  Luckily the PO found the book eventually ( about 4 weeks more later), but if they hadn't I would have gotten to keep my credit.

Bertie, you are correct in sending PMs even if you used PBS DC and got your credit. If they don't mark it received the site asks that you follow up with the receiver by sending a PM.

It costs the site a credit every time a member doesn't mark a book received that was sent with PBS DC. If they get enough books that aren't marked received where the fee no longer covers the lost books, they may increase the fee so it is in the sender's best interest to do the follow up.

From the Help Center:

If you sent the book with Delivery Confirmation and it has been recorded as delivered by USPS but hasn't been marked received yet:

  • Remember that the book could have been scanned as "delivered" at the local PO, before it went to the requestor's mailbox--the actual delivery can be a few days later  Also, the book could have been misdelivered.
    • The requestor should check with her mail carrier about this package.
    • The package could also be at her local PO being held for pickup; sometimes pickup notices left by the mail carrier go astray.
  • You should FIRST contact the requestor using the button on the transaction on the Books I've Mailed tab in My Account when a few days have passed after delivery.
    • If the requestor does not respond to your PM within a week, and/or has not marked the book received by a week after the delivery scan, contact us.  We will look into it.
    • If the requestor responds and says she or he DID get the book, she or he can mark the book received one of two ways:
      • if the book has NOT been declared lost in the mail at PBS - from his or her active transactions (on the En Route to Me tab on My Account) as described in How to Mark a Book Received.
      • if the book HAS been declared lost in the mail at PBS - from his or her Transaction Archive (linked from the top of the My Account page)  as described in I received a book that was 'lost in the mail'.
  • If you used DC purchased through PBS, or PBS Printed postage, you will already have gotten your credit for sending the book.

If you sent the book with DC purchased elsewhere and it has been recorded as delivered by USPS but hasn't been marked received yet:

  • First, contact the requestor from the active transaction (in the Books I've Mailed tab in My Account), or from the "lost" transaction in your Transaction Archive if the book has been declared Lost in the Mail by PBS.
  • If the requestor does not respond to your PM within a few days, contact us and we will look into it.
  • We cannot grant credit for DC purchased outside PBS, but we can check if this requestor has become inactive.
  • If this requestor is inactive, your book should be marked received by the system.
