I'm sitting here crocheting away and snipping away and have a little pile. Someone said they put it out in the yard for the birds to use.  I sure hate throwing it away. Especially the good stuff.

So I was wondering what you do with it?

Give it to my kids for their craft projects.  I like the bird idea.

I take a piece of clear laminate cut to bookmark size and place the yarn in an interesting pattern on the laminate, cover with another piece, round the corners, punch hole in top with hole punch.  Thread another piece of yarn through and knot.  Makes a pretty bookmark.  Sometimes I place a piece of rice paper torn to fit on the yarn before the cover piece of laminate.  Just play and make interesting looking.

Oh cool, I love bookmarks. I'll have to try that.

To be honest,, if they are small I trash em. If they are a decent size I save them to use in other art projects.

Brilliant idea about the birds. Especially when you are knitting with organic materials that can biodegrade. I wouldnt recommend doing it with acrylics though.

On that same subject I've also heard of people tossing their dryer lint for the birds to make nests out of. Havent done that myslf cause my dogs scare all the poor little birdies away.

I got the idea from the Monica Ferris books starring Betsy Devonshire - they did this with cross stitch thread, but I'm doing it with regular yarn:

take a clear glass Christmas tree ornament and stick your little pieces in there and make some unique ornaments out of them. I just bought a box of four on clearance and I'm starting to fill mine up!
