I am pretty new to this site and I was just wondering what is the longest that you have waited for a book? Also, was it worth the wait?  This is strictly out of curiousity.

I am so addicted to this site!  My husband cringes because I have been tearing apart the house looking for books to post.   I have a little basket by my couch full of books that I need to read.  Now, it is seriously overflowing.  It is so weird because I was just thinking a couple of months back that I wished there was a site where you could trade your finished books with someone else.  I couldn't believe it when I learned about here on Cafemom.com.  My son laughs everytime I get a book in the mail because he says that I will never be able to catch up on my TBR pile.  I am starting to wonder myself... lol

I have waited a year.  I think it was worth it.  I have so many other books to read that I don't mind waiting for my wishlist books.  I've been here a year and a half and all my first year wishes have come up.  So, they do get to you eventually.

I still have a book on my wishlist that I put on there on 11/3/2005.  I'm 3/26 on it.  Slowly getting there, lol.  It hasn't bothered me though because it wasn't a series book, and I've had so many other books to keep me occupied that that one hasn't phased me.  I did have another one that was added to my wishlist about the same time, and I just got it last week or so.

The only time that I'll usually get frustrated and buy the book before it gets mailed to me if it's a series book that I'm missing.  I like being able to read the entire series at a time, so I'll normally get the whole series before even starting on the first one.

Good things come to PBSers who wait... I'm 546 days and counting for one book. I'm not exactly holding my breath for it, but I have gotten a number of books I thought would never be posted.

I am not in any hurry to get any of my wishlisted books.  I have a TBR pile of about 25, so I am actually happy for the wait.  I am the type that overlaps books because I get so excited when I see a new book come in.   Anyone else like that or am I just a weirdo?  LOL

Maria, you are not a weirdo. I am the same. I have close to 200 books on my shelf. At home I have 2 huge bookcases full to books TBR and I still buy books. I read at least one book every day, but still cant keep up. My book bill (including postage) is rapidly approaching my house payment, lol.

I have a cabinet next to my bed that is full of books that I hope to read someday.. lol  I keep my TBR books in a basket next to the couch and I try to read a book every night.  However, I have a 3 year old that demands a lot of attention, so I usually have to wait until she goes to bed.  It is so frustrating because it seems like just when I get into the book, I have to put it down.  I also keep buying books (used of course, I have a hubby-enforced budget that I try to stick to.  My husband just doesn't understand.. lol) and requesting them off here.  I feel like I just need to have them, even if I can't read them right away.  I tell my husband that it could be worse, I could be addicted to shoes, purses and jewelry.. If you ask me, he has it pretty easy..

I waited 13 months for a book, and I got it just recently.  I just got notice that another book that I'd posted on my WL on 5/06 is on the way.  Both books were definitely worth the wait because I've been searching for them for about two years.  Most of the books I had on my WL came much more quickly.  That's why my TBR pile is abot to topple over. ;o)

I had one book that I had placed on my WL a couple of months after joining PBS, so probably October of 2005...and just got it last month! I was the only wisher for the book, it was a somewhat obscure historical mystery series that isn't widely available here in the USA. Of course, now the stupid thing is just sitting on my TBR shelf along with the other 675+ books waiting there. I really SHOULD read it, I suppose....I'll be mad if it sucks, though! LOL

Maria - I am usually reading about five books at the same time. I can't just read one, because sometimes I'm in the mood for a biography, sometimes some various non-fiction topics, like Bible commentaries, parenting books or craft books, sometimes something historical, sometimes something serious, other times some light and fluffy fiction.... So I keep a running list of books going (and usually at least three of them stacked up next to my couch) because I never know what reading mood I'm going to be in. :-)

I'm not sure what was meant exactly by "how long you waited" but it seems most people have interpretted the question as "for wish listed books". To me, it's a given that you are going to wait for WL books. When I saw the topic I only thought about how long I've waited for a requested book once it's been accepted and then sent.  In my case, that was just recently, and it was a little annoying. Most of the time I get the books right away, but there was one book that I requested at the beginning of July. It was accepted right away, and was supposed to have been sent out by July 21. I just got the book two days ago and the postmark date was August 9th. Now, I know once I did something like this -- I sent the book off to be brought to the PO by my husband, and a week later he called and asked if I'd wanted that book sent out; it had been buried under some papers at his office and he forgot all about it. I sent a PM to the requester with BIG apoligies and let them know it was on its way that day. For this book that I just got, I got no explanation whatsoever as to why it was sent out almost two weeks after it was supposed to have gone out.

So far I've found this to be a big exception, though. Most people are really wonderful on here, I've found!

I've been waiting for some time for my wishlist books, but the longest I have waited for a book that was requested was about 2 1/2 months, last year--Yes 2 and a half MONTHS--the first person that got the reqeust waited until the last day to accept the order, then it was lost in the mail, same thing happened with the 2nd person, the third person accepted, then canceleed because she didn't like the condition of the book ,but I said it was OK--my neice needed it for school--and it was accepted by the 4th person that had the book on their shelf.  I ended up with 2 copies by the time my neice went back to school last August

I do have one book on my wishlist where I am #91 of 100, but I jsut put it on the wishlist to see how many people were wishing for Nora Roberts "Promise Me Tomorrow******BECAUSE I HAVE THE BOOK*******

I waited a year.  It was worth it.  I'm not that impatient since I have a ton of books to read anyway. LOL

I have a couple of books that have been on there since I first joined, maybe they'll get posted, maybe not.

Sometimes I break down and buy something if the WL is really long (who am I kidding, I always order books) or order it from the library.

I have been waiting on some since the day I joined, so over a year ago. Some of them, I'm not even first in line yet. It doesn't bother me though, there are so many great books to read in the meantime. Most of my wishlist is books that I want to have for my personal library, and not to just read and pass on. If its a fiction book that I really can't wait to read, I will just check it out of the library. I have been amazed, though, at the books that I have gotten on here. A lot of out of print, obscure natural living and natural birth books that I couldn't find on half.com or amazon.

There are some that have been on my WL since the day I joined.  Yesterday one of them arrived.  It's a beautiful, like-new, only in HB copy of In Tuscany by Frances Mayes.  It made my day. I'm still smiling just thinking about it.  Definately worth the wait.

I'm still waiting on some of them I haven't been here that long maybe 4 or 5 months but I have 45 in my TBR pile so I have plenty of reading to do while I wait, it's funny I still go to the store and it takes all the power within me not to buy a book that I want that I just can't wait for I have bought one right before I went on vacation but the next one I wanted that the same arthor wrote it came today so I was glad that I waited and it was'nt that long that it came up so I was happy about that. I guess it depends on how many people you have in front of you for that book.

Theresa

Currently reading~ A Love Woven True Book two by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller

Just finished~ A Tapestry of hope book one by same aurthor as above
