i just ordered 5 books (educational for homeschooling use) from a member.  i was curious what she still had on her bookshelf so i went to look again.  and that was the message under "books mailed" and "books received".

what does it mean? that makes me nervous.  she now only has 4 books on her shelf.

im the paranoid type so im hoping this isnt a biggy but darn it, with 5 credits being used for this one person (books on eqypt, vikings, castles, rome, knights, etc. etc. for my son)..i am feeling a bit anxious.

anyone know?

You can choose that option in your account settings. She may want or need some extra privacy for a personal reason. I dont think it is a biggie, She has taken the time to make a profile. How long has she been a member?

well, there really wasnt a profile (nothing other than her bookshelf). she has only been a member for a week or so.

i dont understand the privacy issue though.  why would someone need privacy re: how many books they sent or received?

if she was only a member for a week or so there might not be any books there yet anyway.

The map shows generally where you live so some people are a bit paranoid about showing it.

If she has friends here that referred her she may not want them to be able to see her lists, and she does have a profile, or you wouldn't be able to see that she has opted to not show her numbers. She may not have any info on it , but it is a profile. I was the victim of a stalker once, and though it was years ago, and I am sure he is now terrorizing some other woman he had one date with, for a long time I had an unlisted number and had all my accounts changed to reflect only my initial and last name, I moved 6 states away, and this is the only site I have any personal info on (he was not a reader). I can see where some folks need to be careful. Police or military members families, teachers, elected officials, CIA agents, wanted criminals....

And apparently some members take it upon themselves to PM people who have an unbalance in the numbers one way or another--either accusing them of hording or taking advantage of the site.  So some people refuse to disclose their numbers to avoid getting unjustifably bothered.

And others may be horrified by the size of the numbers, and hide them so they can deny them. :)

Some people just don't want that info made available. Some even keep their WL private. One lady said she had a lot of erotica books on WL but has family members on here so she keeps her WL private.  She still gets WL books but none posted directly to her.

I filled out the profice but kept my info minimal.  I didn't list my bday and the names of all my family members.  I don't see an issue with posting my books sent/books received ratio.  I've sent out 3x's more than I've received and no one's every said anything to me.

Hehe, that's me.  Yea, my stats don't show up eiither, because the only way to hide my wish list is to hide my profile altogether (which in turn hides the stats).   If the person is hiding their profile for any reason, then that would hide the stats also.  That could be what you're encountering.  Although, if they've only been a member for a week, I can't imagine why, unless they played with their settings and turned them off by accident.

She most likely doesn't want the map to show where she lives, which is hidden if she doesn't show how many books she has coming or going. Nothing wrong with not wanting to disclose to the world where you live, but kind of a silly thing to try to hide, since if the person wanted to stalk you and really wanted to find out, all they have to do is order a book from you and they not only know what city you live in, they get your exact address. But, most people don't think it that far thru, they just know they don't want it broadcasted publicly.

Some people hide their home addresses too by having their books mailed to work. I had one this week that I mailed to a member c/o a school address and one a few months back mailed to a jail. That one concerned me, cause you can not be a member if you are incarcerated, but she is an employee there. Now that is one member who sure would not want her home location or other private info out there!

I'm sorry Amy if I outed you.  Although I didn't post a name. I just used a post I remembered seeing on here as an example.  I also remember someone posting that they were taking their profile down because they were accused of being underaged. And another member mentioning people bothering them over their books sent/received ratio.

It says in my profile that my DH is military. It's not hard to find.  He's been on TV, newspapers and such.  There's info about him on the internet.

Gosh, no not at all.  The main person I am hiding from (hi mom!) doesn't use internet forums and I would be mightly surprised if she ever saw this.  Although I guess I should be more careful, lol!

I would probably die if anyone I know saw my WL.  (also lots of erotica).  I don't personally know anyone on the site though so it hasn't been a problem.
