I woke up this a.m. to a book on WL hold. That was a bit puzzling because the book didn't ring a bell and  I hadn't added it yesterday (and have been purposely holding off on adding WL books). When I checked, I had added the book on 3/28/10.

To my knowledge...if a book is in the system, you can't add it to your WL. Would this happen if a person had it on their WL, but had their WL on hold and then took it off, resulting in my book suddenly being WL'd?

I guess I'm kind of curious, thinking that if that was the case, when you took your WL off hold, you could end up with all kinds of offers at once, even for books that were no longer WL?

I'm sure that's exactly what happened - the request came because the person took it off hold and you had the first copy in the system.

I wonder how many offers I would have if I kept everything on hold for a month?  That would be like Christmas!

Not sure here, but maybe you are right and if their wishlist was on hold and they took it off individual hold or vacation hold and they were in the number one spot when they held it,  it went through like it was still wishlisted.  I guess crazier things have happened.

I just wanted to give you some kind of response since your post was getting lonely with no answers :)

ETA:  Ha! Rhonda and I were rushing to make sure your post wasn't alone.  She beat me to it!

Yep, that's what happened. I put my wishlist on hold while we relocated and everything after the fire. In the meantime, during those few months, several books on my wish list became available in the system. When I took it off hold, those books were offered to me like regular wish list offers. So, that must be what happened in your case as well.

I think that's exactly what happened.  I've had that happen to one of my books - randomly came up on WL hold one day, though I'd posted it a month earlier.  I am also in a position where I could do that myself - sometimes I WL and hold books that are 0 in the system or WL'd at the time, so I can be first in line if I decide I want them later, then they get posted into the system and I'm still 1 of 1 wishers for it on my WL.

As for ending up with tons of offers when you un-held your WL, yes, I think that could happen if they came off of vacation hold (of course they'd still be getting auto-WL books while on vacation hold).  Or it could've been just that individual book which was on hold.

Thanks for the answers for my "lonely" question!! That's kind of what I thought, since it wasn't recent and wasn't WL when I posted it.

It's something I'll keep in mind though if I do ever hold things, because if I'm back in a position to "ration" my credits, I'd probably rather get a truly WL book I was in line for rather than one with copies in the system that I could get at a more convenient (i.e. credit-flush) time.

When I went on hold for about 6months due to a cross country move-I came back to find some of my WL books had been moved to my reminder list. I think those were the ones that went from WL to having several copies in the system.  But I also had like 20 WL offers like the 1st day. I'm sure some of those people were surprised to find a book they had posted on their shelf suddenly WL.

It also happened to me recently that I came on and found a book on WL hold.  I had posted the book a week or two before and just figured they had been on vacation.
