There is a B1 next to my new Boxer symbol, anyone know what it's for? Also, I see flags by some people's names?

Okay, I found the B1, This icon will indicate that a member is part of the Book Cover Image collection group.

Now what are the flags for?

The flag is for someone who uses PBS postage.

You can click on the icons to find out what they are. - The flag says "Printable Postage User" when you point at it.

Um, jokingly, and as I usually use wikipedia to help answer questions:

BI = bisexual  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bi

BD = bondage and discipline  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BD

TG = Transgender or Thank God   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tg

Actually, the icons are explained here: http://www.paperbackswap.com/help/icon_index.php  or you can just click on the icon.

Linda, while it doesn't annoy me, I was wondering the same thing.....what difference does it matter if I use printed postage or not to someone else?

Well if the sender uses printed postage the requestor knows the book has been mailed, and on time.   And you can see the DC scans to keep track of it.  So to my mind it's kind of a recommendation of a sender.

I sent my books, and on time, before printable postage, and printable postage didn't change that, but the icon does make it more visible to other members that you are somewhat "accountable" (at least your swaps can be tracked) in case they are interested in that info.  A little bit like the rating system that folks are always posting about in the forums here...

I don't know that I would order from someone based on the icon, but someone else might.  I just submit my requests and don't think about it further, but I have read so many posts that people look at the sender's transaction #'s and profile and get nervous if the numbers "don't look good" etc.

ETA  LOL I should have the icon, bcs my last several books were all sent with printable postage, but maybe you have to have sent a book recently...it's been a few weeks since I sent out a book.

Well since I use printed postage when I get an order I can mail the book that day from my mail box. So maybe its there so you can see who might mail faster.

good point, Chris.  I usually mailed within 2 days before PP, but after it started I got the books in the mail like in five minutes!  It does really speed things up.

I dont think the extra icons are needed, other than Tour guides and the volunteers.  Why do we need to know if people use the postage or the journal???  So those of us that dont use any tracking are not as trust worthy or not worthy members? I have been a member for over 2 years and have a great track record. I dont use DC because my books get to the destination within 5 days on a regular basis. Should I demand an icon saying I am a responsible person now?

on another note......I cannot figure out why my blinkies disappeared; they are not in my settings sig box anymore. I have always had problems with my sig box. Some people have 20 items in there and I am doing good to get 4 or 5 to show up. [pay backs for starting the craze on here I guess.]

Hi Judye, there was an issue w/ the server a couple of days ago, and some images were lost.  Avatars and blinkies need to be reloaded.

I use online postage but not PBS postage so I always mail my books the next day or 2 at the latest. I don't see any reason to use DC, mailed over 800 books and never had a problem. If they ever have their postage so you don't have to use DC I would consider it.  I hope members don't feel that the postage icon makes members more trustworthy than others. I don't think that is a fair statement either.

I think most people ignore those icons.  However, I don't use any graphics so it was neat to see the flag under my name...

The only truly new icon is the postage one. The others have just changed. There was always a journaler icon and a tour gide one. Before though the volunteer icons had little pictures on them that were hard to see. I like these better because I can tell what they are.

I didnt say that any one was less worthy just that fast shipping may be the reason for the icon.

I have a post office within a mile of my home and always take my books there daily since MY mailperson won't even pick up my mail.   So while you MIGHT mail faster than I, it's no guarantee.   I'd HATE to think someone wouldn't order from me just because I didn't have that icon.

I think the "Printable Postage User" icon might be more of a way to advertise the printable postage on the forums. It's probably just a way to get more members interested in using the printable postage option since it helps generate income for the site. I honestly don't think it's meant to say who is more trustworthy than whom.

The new icons are awful bulky and non-slick.  I think the old ones were nicer looking--not so in your face.

I do think they seem to have proliferated.  I can see recognizing folks for being volunteers (yay!) and the boxer icon is nice for the same reason having a link to their shelf is.   But the rest?  Seems cluttered to me.

Though I'm tempted to see how many I can get strung across.....

Some members have a list of icons which are kind of hard on the eyes. I think the boxer icon is  too large and bright. I think the blue icons could be a tad smaller too but I do like the idea of the initials. Now you can tell what they stand for. I could never figure the old ones out.

I agree 100%. Do not like the new icons at all.

Well it's all about the buttons! And I want to know why my boxer button isn't showing up under my name! It was there before and now it's gone.
