Here's the basics of the scenario.

Last week I received a wish list offer, I accepted and then waited.  The sender never printed a label or did anything on the request as far as I could tell and the request eventually timed out.  I was put back on the WL at number 1 and thought nothing of it.  Within 24 hours of the request timing out I received a WL offer on the same book, I accepted and then clicked on PM out of curiosity to see if it was someone else.  It seemed too big a coincidence.  It was the exact same member who never mailed the book the first time.  After 3 more days of the sender not doing anything to move the request forward this time, I emailed TPTB to see if this was a situation they needed to be aware of.

Yesterday I received a book with a PBS label from out of nowhere.  The only active request I've had recently was the one that timed out last week.  It's a book that I've never even heard of, so I know I didn't order it or request it.  The label has the PBS address as the return address so that's no help for figuring out where it came from.  I thought of the timed out request and thought perhaps they sent the book to me on accident.  I PMd that sender, but have heard nothing from them.  My current request for the same book is set to time out again tomorrow and I expect that it probably will...and now I've got this mystery book sitting around my house.

Any ideas on what I should do here?  This is by far the weirdest PBS situation I've come across.

I'd report it to TPTB and give them all the details you can, such as book ISBN and whatever date you can get off the envelope. Then put it aside and see what they request that you do with it.

I imagine they'll have to have a talk with the member posting the WL book and not sending it out and see what happened. Maybe they sent it, or maybe there was a glitch somewhere. Just don't mark anything received that you didn't order.

I'd just let them worry about it. Then if they say keep it and don't worry about it, enjoy a freebie. Hope someone else will post your WL book for you!

If it is a PBS label, then it will have a transaction number on it in the return address area. Send that number to the site via Feedback and ask them about it. They will be ble to trace the transactionfor you. It cannot be from the transaction you refer to if they never printed a label from that. If it is a PBS label with your name on it, then there should be a record of it on your account somewhere and PBS can find it.

If the current transaction gets to timing out again, I myself would send a PM to the member asking them what the problem is that they have posted the book twice and let it sit until it timed out without mailing it and ask that they not post the book again until they are able to send it because it is interferring with me getting the book from someone who is ready to send the book.

Yes that, the transaction number.  You can't track it, but TPTB can probably see what's up.

Melanie paragraph #2  yes  I can understand being busy over the summer, and seen a number of time-outs recently also.  But the sender needs to buy a clue, if she doesn't have time to send she needs to stop posting the book until her schedule improves...not fair to keep you off the wishlist multiple times.

I hadn't even thought of that, thanks for the advice!  I will send the information and see what they think I should do.  It is a very odd combination of events to be sure.

Good idea. It's irritating because I've now been out of the active WL for 2 weeks and still have no book to show for it.  So if this one times out I will be sure to send a polite PM asking that they please not post it again unless they have the time to send it, because the offer will keep coming to me and prevent me from getting a copy.

Alright, so I'm at home now and looking at the envelope.  It has the PBS address as the return address, nothing underneath.  My address, no transaction ID.  And the DC number and stamps.  Not even a postmark date lol.  Is it possible someone used the "sent to a friend" option and that's why it doesn't have a transaction ID?  I'll send what I have to TPTB and see what they say, but there's not much to go off of.

They did get back to me about the WL multiple non-mailer.  Said she's a new member and maybe doesn't understand everything yet, so they are going to get in touch with her to try and sort it out.  I'll still send the polite PM if it indeed times out tomorrow.

There are a couple other posts out there reporting receiving un-ordered books!  Wonder if this is free-book month??????

Lol, I was beginning to think so!  TPTB emailed me again today and said they figured it out, I won a blog book awhile ago and I guess I forgot even entering so that was the book in question.
