I received a book today from PBS. It appeared a bit worn, but in pretty good shape, so I marked it received and all. Then, when I looked closer at it, I realized that what appeared to just be general wear at the sides of the spine is actually the covers separating from the book. Mostly it's slight, but the top of the back cover is separated from the spine for a good two inches. So was and is this postable? If not, what do I do now? I read the HC, but I'm not really clear on this. Help would be appreciated.

Not really, but someone has to have the book for the last time. You have already markied it received but maybe if you M the person and tell your storey....you might not get the credit back, but you might feel better.  It is readable and you can give it as a freebie.

Fraying along the spine is OK per the Help Docs, but I think the 2 inches would fall under no cover tear bigger than 1". But, if it was so unnoticable that you did see it when you got it and could only tell on more thorough inspection, it is probably something the sender could have missed or was done with the handling of the book in shipment. My opinion is that its reached the end of its PBS postable life with you.

OK, thanks. I guess I'll just consider it a future free unpostable after I read it. No problem. I did PM the person, just to let them know, but with how unnoticeable it was until I looked closer, I fully understand that they may not have noticed. It's no big deal. I mean, it's not as if it's liquid damaged, stained, or gross or anything. Thank goodness.
