There was a romance novel, historical, set (I think) along the Mississippi (though it might have been a port town on the East Coast). It was written in the 1980s or early to mid 90s and the heroine's name was Delight. The hero was a captain on a boat and she ran away from home, her mother was sick and her stepfather was interested in her and tried to rape her after drugging her. Does anyone know this book? For the life of me I cannot remember the title or author. Thanks for the help!

Could this possibly be it?  Even though your synopsis and this one aren't quite the same

Book Description:

Highland laird Ramsay MacLean thought Eden Delight Marlow would be pleased when he asked her to be his mistressand lowered his lips for an uninvited kiss. Instead she raised her dainty fistand bloodied his nose! Fresh out of finishing school, Eden knew exactly what Ramsay was: a Scotsman who was no gentlemanand who thought every woman was his for the taking.

She didn't know that his inheritance depended on his bedding her and begetting an heir. Now he had her cornered on a ship bound for America, scheming to seduce her and to spirit her to his Highland castle. But Eden's delights would turn the tables on this brazen bachelor, leaving him bewitched, bothered and bewilderedand facing a battle of the sexes that could claim his heart as the dazzling prize.

Yikes!  The title of the book shown above is HIDDEN FIRES (1995) by Betina Krahn

Nope, I know it was set in the US and the heroine's first name was Delight. But thanks for trying.

One of the women here has referred us to a site where you plug in descriptors of the book and it helps you search--- I know eventually she'll see this and tell you about it.  Of course, my aging brain can't remember.

I think abebooks has a section where you can post questions like this.

This probably isn't right, but it popped into my head. Dorothy Garlock's Almost Eden, is set in Mississippi, but the heroines name is Maggie and the hero's name is Light.   I know the names are wrong, but just thought I'd post on the off chance it would be. But I would recommend it, it was a fantastic book, loved it!

Email Candy or Sarah at Smart Bitches. Those posts almost always get solved.

Thanks everyone! I checked out ABEbooks and got a lead on what I think is the book. Rapture's Tempest. I'll update when I get it.
