How about a place to post our workouts for accountability?  I went back to work about 2 months ago, so I haven't been able to get to the gym as much, but I need to lose the 4 lbs that I put on during that time and firm back up again.  I don't want to say it's a NY's resolution...just getting back to my lifestyle.  My resolution is eating and cooking better for my family.  We just moved to Iowa this summer and lived with my parents for 2 months before buying our house.  During that time, I lost about 8 lbs and felt great.  I really thought it was all of the running I was doing to cleanse my mind  :).  I just realized in the past few days that eating habits had a HUGE role in it.  My parents are on a heart healty diet due to my dad's heart attack a few years ago....that healty eating made a big difference...anyhoo.

Post workouts, healthy eating...even slip-ups if you want.

I'm working a 7-7 so I won't be logging today, but I teach tomorrow morning and am planning to run a bit afterwards.

Anyone want to join me and log your efforts?  Encouragement and praise is always good for hard work!!

You're welcome (she says as she chews a bit of lasagna) :)

I did have 3 good days of cardio last week and a 30 minute strength class + 2 minutes on the treadmill on Friday.  (no one showed up for class Fri morning so I hopped on the treadmill...was on for my 2 minutes and someone came late)

I need to look into the 100 push-ups challenge.  I try to do them every day I work out.  I can do between 40 and 50 right now without stopping.  It is the best full body toning!!

I did a tone and sculpt workout from the biggest loser DVD along with the warm-up and cool down. Yesterday I did the low intensity cardio along with the w-u and c-d.

I taught my step class followed by 15 minutes of abds.  I then ran for just 10 minutes at a pace of 7.2 followed by 50 pushups.

I'm taking the tree down today, so can I count lugging boxes up and down the stairs??  :)

I did the biceps/triceps/shoulders workout from Kelly Coffey-Meyer's 30 Minutes to Fitness - Weights DVD and am now off to do Leslie Sansone's 4 Really Big Miles (I think that's what it's called - it's not in my collection, I have it on loan from the library).  I'm healing a bulged disk in my lower back, so I'm returning to kinder, gentler workouts than what I've been doing the last several years.

For all those interested in a check in group for accountability, please check out videofitness.com!  Discussion forums, recipes, and a whole bunch of "check ins."  You'll find one or two to fit your needs!  VF is an awesome place for those who exercise primarily at home.

today i did the push up challange.  On second week and doing 10 before my arms give out.  On second week and lowest program.  If I do more than 10 , in week three I think I move up to middle grouping.   also did stability ball with a video but my computer kept stopping and starting on me so I ended up doing most of it from memory.  also did tread mill for 40 minutes.   Wow 40-50 pushups I don't thnk I will get that far!  Never have been able to do push ups even back in school!  Great job girls!  Keeping up with you guys will be a challange.

Great job everyone!  What kind of dance aerobics do you do Kirstin?  We offer a Zumba class at the rec, but I've never tried it before.  It's just not offered at a time I go.  And generally, I either teach or run...I know I should change it up some!

Leola -- don't be discouraged!  Not everyone can even do 10 pushups!  You'll be surprised at how much you'll be able to do at the end of the challenge...I guarentee!!  I posted in the toning arms thread why I started doing push-ups.  My 16 yr old nephew told me awhile back that he had to do 40 for baseball...that was challenge enough for me!  :)  I was getting wobbly this morning on my 50th.  :)

I'm making chicken on the George Foreman grill tonight with roasted sweet potatoes and red potatoes.  I have my apples and low fat peanut butter or granola and yogurt for a snack.  The kids weren't loving me at the store today when my daughter asked if I'd make brownies and I had to tell her...no because I will eat them all!!  :)

Question -- Are you working out to stay healthy, to lose weight, or both?

Me -  When I stepped on the scale this morning, I realized that what I thought was 4 lbs is really about 6 or 7 that I want to get rid of.  Plus, just firming up the jiggly bits.

Shannon - I work out to maintain health and fitness.  I'm happy with my weight.  Oh, and on the vanity front, I do workout to keep my 41-year-old body looking buff enough to wear a 2-piece swimsuit in public.  LOL!

I'm with you on the vanity part, too.  I love feeling confident in a 2 piece, too!  Unfortunately for me, though...I lose my weight first and most of it in the places where I don't want to.  Like my chest.  I just wish I were proportional...maybe someday!

Shannon - We have much in common then.  LOL!  The first place I lose weight is my chest, which can hardly stand it.  Now, if I could spot reduce my thighs and lower tummy (which was flat as a pancake at age 34 after 3 babies until my 4th child at age 35 needed to be delivered via c-section - grrrr),  I'd be a happy girl!

I"ve had 2 c-sections, so I totally sympathize!!  Not that it's a big stomach, it's just that extra skin that hangs over the scar!

I'm with Shelley -- I'm hanging on to that bikini as long as I can.  I work out mainly to stay strong & healthy but also because I just feel better when I'm at my correct weight and working out regularly.  Things are so much easier when you're fit and eating right.

What kind of dance aerobics do you do Kirstin?

One you'll probably won't get in any Gym. I developed it myself. It is hi-lo cardio techno inspired with the basic techno dance steps. It has the usual aerobic dance movesm like grapevine, mambo and stuff but also is influenced by jumpstyle.

My friends tired it once but they can't keep up with the leg movements. Right now I am figuring out a beginner low impact version.  Not only for my friends but for myself as well. I'm still recovering from ankle surgery and the usual routine is just too dangerous to do right now. I do it but I need to watch each and every step without enjoying what I do.

I can't wait until my ankle brace is finished. Gives me more security. :-)

Jeeze!  Take care of your ankle!  It really stinks to be sidelined by an injury.  I've had a few knee issues, but nothing major.  I feel very fortunate!

I took a great Hi-lo class in Denver.  It was really a lot of fun...very dancy.  But, when I could follow the moves, it kicked me in the butt!

I'm planning to run tomorrow morning.  I'm heading over to get some new music for my Ipod right now.  :)

I ran 3 1/2 miles this morning in 30 minutes.  I like to alternate speeds and add some inclines here and there.  I did a little cardio on the step and some weights and then abs with a 6lb ball for 10 minutes.

I teach sculpting tomorrow morning, but I'm hoping to get a good run in afterwards before I have to gt the kids up for school.

As of now I didn't do much but plan to do later this day. I did push-ups this morning and then headed to the physio therapy. There I was finally allowed to "run" on the treadmill. I did 20 minutes at speed 5.9 but wasn't allowed to use the incline. After 18 minutes I felt my ankle and had to correct my step and lower the speed to 5.5. However, it felt great.:-)

This evening I'm planning on an hour bootcamp, cardio and weigths.

Sometimes after breaks, you can come back and really kick butt!

I forgot to add that I did my push-up this morning.  I did as many as I could...per the push up challenge start thing.  I did 58...on the last one, I wasn't able to come back up and had to just drop to the floor.  I had an inner snicker with myself and must have looked like an idiot sitting up laughing!

I did my toning class this morning for an hour.  We did a lot of lunges and squats so I got my heart rate up quite a bit.  I then did my step routine and did some cardio boosting intervals for about 1/2 hour.  My calves are already killing me...along with me knees...great!

Have come down with a cold and haven't excercised past 2 days. Boo Hoo!  Am going to try to catch up Friday and Sat.    I want to be healthy and lose my stomach buldges also.  I want to have more energy too. At 58 I am wayyyyy beyound the 2 piece bathingsuit.  Even one piece is too little to consider.  I just want my jeans to fit good!  Hope my next post I will be feeling better and up to 15 push ups!

Keep up the good work girls.
