now the the Betsy series is getting good reviews they only release them in oversized $14 paperbacks?!?!?!? She is a powerfull enough writer.....she needs to put the hammer down on her publisher! I know Lori Handeland has chastized me on this subject on the RT's forums (and I still love ya Lori) but damn it Authors. Start to realize that when you start to get popular.....the publisher looses all control and YOU are in the drivers seat!! Take back control! If your current publisher doesnt want to play by your rules....there are 30 more that will! We, the readers dont care who prints the book, just that YOU wrote it. |

uhhh I hate when they do that!!!! It so messes up my bookshelf. Now I just wait for the reg. size paperback and get the new release at the library. Plus I think that paying more for a book that is just a bigger paperback is crazy. Last Edited on: 5/10/08 11:04 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I think I'm confused. The new Betsy Book is hardcover according to Amazon. Are you talking about something else? |

i was wondering the same thing as Angela. as far as i can tell, the only new release in a while that's trade size only is the short story collection Dead Over Heels. Dead and Loving It came out the same way, and various other things over the years, including Really Unusual Bad Boys, and most of the Alaskan Royal Family series. as far as i can tell, the Undead books are continuing to come out first in HB, then the MMP release is later. i suspect that's her most popular series by far. |

besides that they really don't have much control over the sizes and covers of their books. Unless they negotiate the contract that way and that doesn't happen until they are uber popular and are already locked in. MJD talked about this at a book signing I went to, she doens't even own the rights to the werewolf stories published in the Secrets anthologies and even offered a multiple 0 $ amount for the rights and the publisher turned her down. Not that she blames them, since she became popular the demand for the secrets books with her short stories in them has increased. |

I have noticed even some new authors are coming out in trade paperback size. I don't mind the size but the price I do. I am assuming that it is all a $ thing for the publishers maybe with the popularity of e books increasing. I saw on the news where books sales are way down these last few years, maybe due to video games popularity also. |

I'm less concerned with the size and/or type of the book than the content. I love MJD writing...it's fun and easy but yet they take literally 2 hrs to read. What's up with that?!?!? Most of her books are larger font & doubled spaced...most are barely half the size of a real book. I find that very frustrating and in fact refuse to buy any of her books new b/c of it! |

Drives me crazy!!! I remember last summer getting one of the Betsy books in the mail...can't remember which one. We had a party to go to, I was dressed and ready and DD was at a friends...so I figured I'd start the book. In the time it took DH to get showered and dressed I had read all but about the last 40 pgs....and my man doen't primp! It's amazing...they are more like short stories and then they are sold as complete novels. I just don't understand how she gets away with it!!
ETA.......... Hey Ellen...Flyers don't look so good now! And it's killing me that we are probably going to lose the the Peguins...I'd rather loss to any other team...even the Devils!!! Last Edited on: 5/14/08 8:18 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

btw, how are you liking Night Life? that's sitting on my TBR pile. |

I picked up a couple of her books at the library friends sale, and they were the big paperback ones. Now I will have to go look at the type and margins :) |

Honestly - I'm getting to be less of a fan - not more. I recently read one of her short stories in an anthology, and I felt like she just threw some words onto paper and sent it in as a short story. Short and breezy is one thing, but careless is another. To me, even her full length books are more like snacks than meals. |
