Need some help.................... I sent a book using DC.  It was declared lost on Oct 19th.  I went into the Transaction Archive to check to see if anything new was there.  This is what I found:

Delivery Confirmation Events

  1. 9/22/2009 8:00 PM ET - Electronic Shipping Info Received - DEER PARK, NY
  2. 9/27/2009 5:11 PM ET - Enroute - JERSEY CITY, NJ
  3. 9/28/2009 3:29 PM ET - Enroute - ALLEN PARK, MI
  4. 10/2/2009 10:49 PM ET - Enroute - FEDERAL WAY, WA
  5. 10/24/2009 6:31 AM ET - Other - FEDERAL WAY, WA

Anyone know what "other" means???

When a book is returned to sender, there are several options in the scanner for the reason why the book is being returned:  Unable To Forward (mainly means, forward time expired), No Such Address, Unclaimed, etc.  The last choice is "Other", which doesn't provide much information really.  And anyway, it should say "Returned To Sender" I would think, plus the reason.  But I'm just guessing here.  If you want to PM me the DC number, I can run it through the postal system.  Sometimes there is a bit more information available that way.

It may also mean the package was damaged and the address information is unreadable, although the barcode or the numbers below it were still there.

Nope, that's a new one lol!  But I noticed over 20 days difference between #4 and #5...like maybe it was pink slipped and USPS was waiting for somebody to pick it up, or possibly some other deliver or addy issue but I'm having difficulty thinking of one that couldn't be resolved in 20 days!

Don't know what "other" means. But I lived in WA for the first year and half of my PBS membership and I had a lot of books that seemed to get stuck in Federal Way, WA.

Federal Way, WA is a black hole I cringe when I see the first scan there because I know there will be many more. That may be the first correct scan I've ever seen from there since Enroute isn't really accurate, its just sittin' there going nowhere.

Thanks for the info!  I went on to the USPS website and it said that the package was being "returned to sender" because the address was in valid.  That was on 10/24 and I haven't received it back yet!  Yikes.

Most of my packages go through the Federal Way sorting center Melanie.  To date I've mailed over 500 books and none have gone missing.  Maybe Federal Way is under new management since you lived here?  My biggest PBS mailing problem originated in Warrendale, PA...another infamous black hole for media mail.

Allison, your package may return postage due.  You may wish to check PBS guidelines for your options regarding returned books and possible additional postage.

The DC on a BOB box I sent showed it being returned to me.  But it was delivered with no problem. So who knows what goes on when they scan those books.

Well, I got the envelope back today.................with no books in it!!!!!!!!!  The envelope was in perfect condition except for a cut on top that was sealed back shut.  It wasn't ripped at all.

Really bummed..........this is the first time this has happened to me.

:(
