This is one of my husband's books and he thoroughly enjoyed it. He is big into history and military *stuff*, but it isn't my type of reading.

What would have happened in history if Alexander the Great hadn't died at such a young age? Great historians speculate and this and other similar ideas as to how history and our lives would be different today.

A book of tenty essays by historians and inquisitive laymen about what would have happened IF one little detail were different -- "2,500 years of close squeaks and narrow misses".

Well, it's fine as history, but there is very little speculation of what might have happened, overall. I don't know if it's because historians are always looking into the past, they aren't good storytellers, or the editor keeps them on a short speculative leash.
