I just recieved a very nice book in the mail from a sender.  My very specific RC's state that i do not want books with cigarette smell (ok...this wasn't a problem for this book) and I don't want books with writing in or on them.

um...the sender actually wrote INSIDE THE BOOK (which otherwise is in excellent condition) ......"Tammie, love from my house to yours...Debbie"

So now what do i do??? The book is actually for my daughter.  To me this is going against my RC wishes...but what do you all think??

If you think the book violates your RC, then you mark it RWAP with the reason "does not meet requestor conditions."  Typically per the PBS guidelines, "no writing" means not on the text pages but a flyleaf inscription is okay. However, if your conditions state otherwise, those prevail over the PBS guidelines.

Yuppers +2

And inconsiderate also, adding a note inside the book after reading your RC's  http://www.freewebby.com/action-smilies/ranting.gif

You could try putting a book plate over the writing, but it does sound like a RWAP to me...

Weird. I think notes between PBSers should be on a post it or something separate from the book. Afterall, we don't always keep every book.

Since it was in your RC for no writing, I would mark it RWAP.

Oh, jeez...  She inscribed it, with love, to you?  I'd feel like the Grinch for marking that one RWAP.  Better you than me, is all I can say:P

I am not very picky about the books I get so I don't have an RC so I probably feel different than you.  I think the sender was just trying too hard to be nice.  I might mark with RWAP & would explain the problem & that writing in the book was a big problem for you.  I wouldn't request the credit back but if it was for a gift and now can't be a gift, well maybe then.

It may have been done with kindness, but how oblivious do you have to be to accept a book with a RC for "no writing" and then WRITE in the book?
