I mailed 5 books together to the same requestor the end of June.  It took longer than usual for the package to arrive at its destination and I was getting a little concerned,,,,,but then again, I had never mailed that many books at once and didn't really know how long it should take.  Anyway, a couple of days ago, 4 out of the 5 books were marked as received! The 5th book is just sitting on my page ...waiting patiently to be marked as received!  I e-mailed the requestor to see if she just missed that one or if there was a problem (shouldn't have been..its a new book).  It has been 2 days since the other books were marked as received and I emailed her.  How long should I wait for a response?  If it times out and goes "lost" will I lose my credit?

thanks

pat

ps......I used printable postage and received instant credit for the 5 books

Pat - If you used PBS Postage, you won't lose your credit even if the book goes lost. As Melanie mentioned in another post: "The credit assurance on the Quick Credit and Instant Credit protects your credit in the case of a book going lost. The fees to use PBS postage and PBS DC are what cover the costs of PBS giving the requester back their credit while you keep yours."

If it is driving you nuts seeing it sitting there, you could always PM the receiver to gently point out that they forgot to mark one received. I have done that accidently when I have received a large request and usually notice in a day or two that I forgot to mark it received. I think most people would appreciate a PM alerting them that they forgot to mark one received but you can also ask if there was something wrong with the book that made them not mark it received.

PBS generally asks that you wait 5-7 days for a response to PMS since not everyone comes on everyday or has computer access everyday.  Before it goes lost though, if you haven't had a response from them (they might be on vacation-tis the season), I would contact PBS.  It wouldn't be fair for this person to get the book and then a credit refund for it as well.

That's pretty much what I was thinking.......when I received the 4 emails that 4 of the 5 had been received, I thought WTH...weird.  I waited a while then em'd her to see if she just missed the 5th one.  Couldn't have been more than an hour later.  I will wait a few more days, email her again, then if I get no response again, I'll report it.

thanks for the input

pat

If you wait the requesite number of days and the person still doesn't mark the book as received, I would contact PBS.  This is a clear-cut case of "operator error" on the part of the recipient and I'm sure PBS will help you get it resolved if the member doesn't take care of it.

How did you package the books? It is possible, if the package opened during transit, that one of the books could have not made it back in with those that were delivered. Seems unlikely, buy there have even been instances where things other than books have made their way into PBS packages.

Even if this was the case though, that's not excuse not to answer your messages.

first, I placed them in a box to see how to fit them in....I took them out,.wrapped them all in plastic, put them back in the box, taped up the box.  Then wrapped it in brown paper, taping all the seams....I really just don't see how one could have slipped out.  And I feel like if all but one made it to her, she would have let me know she didn't get the 5th book and asked for her credit back.  Hopefully this was just an oversight and next time she logs in, she will correct it...it not, I am reporting it just to get it off my page

Just recently, I had to PM someone who did the same to me .. overlooked marking one of their books received from a multi-book package. It happens. Took them 3 or 4 days to get it marked received, as I recall.

What Mary said, I agree with her thoughts on this matter.  TPTB seem very concerned that members answer pm's regarding problem and/or potential problem transactions.  If you do not receive an answer or resolution within 4 or 5 days refer it to PBS admin.

Pat, it's possible the post office decided to examine your package, as they sometimes do with Media Mail,  and when they repacked it, left out one book.  If so, at least you received your credit for it.  If you don't hear back from the requester after a week, contact PBS and let them know there has been no response since she is required to reply. Also ask them to remove it from your tab.

Junie, I didn't even think about that.......That would be a real shame, cause that was a brand new book !! And I guess there is no way to find that out either, huh?  I really wish she would answer me so I can move on!!

I think it's user error-missing one when marking them received.  I can't see anyone expecting all those books from 1 person and not PMing when the box shows up and one is missing.

I did this one time. I received a few books from 1 member and marked all but one received.  She pm'd and reminded me about the one I missed.

Recently on another trading site that doesn't do shipping labels and group orders together-I had 3 books going to 1 person. I mailed them out together and didn't notice until the next day that I had onlly marked 1 mailed. Luckily they dont' have automatic times outs there. But the requestor could have cancelled the ones I didn't mark.

Another possibility...her internet or computer crashed while she was marking the books received...happened to me today right after I marked a book RWAP.  The sender didn't get the explanation PM until 6 hours after I marked it received!

I didn't contact TPTB yet, but I just got an email saying this book was received (and its gone from my page....yay).  No explanation or anything.  So I guess we will never know the rest of the story.
