I'm trying to make a profile, but I'm pretty ignorant about some computer terms. What's an avatar? It looks like it wants my picuture, but when I try to put one there or below where it says image, it just dissapears. Did it get posted? I don't see myself in the member list yet...

It's the pictures that people have in the accounts. You probably need to resize it.  Go into Paint and adjust the size of the picture. I forget the dimentions it needs to be. I just keep making it smaller and smaller until it shows up.

See my little doughnut?  That's an avatar.  When you try to add one, are you hitting the update settings button?  If you aren't then your avatar will not stick.

There is a wonderful tutorial here to teach you how to create your own avatar, size it properly and add pictures and blinkies to your signature line as well.  The most excellent Chris B. (mannythepoolshark) has created this wonderful tool, and it is in her notebook on her profile page (be sure to scroll down to about the 4th entry or so):  http://mannythepoolshark.paperbackswap.com/profile/
