what genre a book is in?

I'm surprised that when you click on a title here, and are given the short description of the book along with some statistics, that nowhere is the genre listed. What's the quickest way I can find that?

As Laura said, genres are listed at the bottom of the book page, in blue.  If there is no genre listed for a book, you can edit the listing by clicking on the title (to get to the book's info page) then click on "more options" and choose "edit book info."  You are limited to the number of genres you can add, but the volunteer who approves your edit can also add one.  If you want that to happen, put a note in the "reason for edit" box and describe the genre you want the approver to add.

Are you asking to determine if this is a book you are interested in reading?   I always go to the Amazon site and read the comments.  That usually helps me.

If you're not sure what the genre/subject is and it isn't given in the PBS listing, I find worldcat.org to be good source to use, or else Amazon -- Amazon's subject listings are located at the bottom of the page, below the user reviews and everything else.

thanks for all the suggestions!

I guess I normally only see the first screen on a book page, sometimes the reviews if I want to read those.  I had to go down to 4th screen to find the genre info...........

It's true, the genre data is quite a bit down towards the bottom of the page, it should be at the top with the other book data. When you click on a book to get the book page it's an extra step to scroll down and I usually won't take the time to do that, especially if there are no reviews. I just go back to whatever list or search results I was looking at and on to the next book.
