I have 2 books of the same title coming to me. I only ordered it once (I think it might have been on my wishlist but I was the only wisher). I checked the ISBN and it is the same on both books.

Here's the info for the first book: this is saying it's on its way and has a tracking number attached to it:

Request Date:
11/13/2011 6:50 PM ET
Date Accepted:
11/18/2011 6:10 PM ET
Label Print Date(s):
11/18/2011 6:11 PM ET
Date Mailed:
11/23/2011 11:47 AM ET
Estimated Arrival:
12/20/2011 ET

Here's the info for the 2nd book (this is the one I've received):

2nd book:

Request Date: 11/20/2011 10:59 PM ET
Date Accepted: 11/20/2011 11:47 PM ET
Wrapper Printing(s):

  • 11/21/2011 12:06 AM ET

Date Mailed: 11/21/2011 12:08 AM ET
Date Received: 11/25/2011 4:49 PM ET

I'm trying to figure out what has happened with this transaction. I don't need 2 of the books.

You will need to send in Feedback to find out what really happened, you do that through the Contact Us link in the lower right under Company.

It looks to me like you requested the book a second time while the first one was in transit. The system will let you do that and I have done it myself, luckily I caught it before the second copy was mailed and when I send in Feedback asking how I go two offers of the Wish List book, they were able to tell me exactly when I added it to my Wish List the second time (not noticing or realizing I had it in transit to myself already). If it was a system glitch they will be able to tell that too.

If you first requested it on the 13th, and the second one shows the request being made on the 20th, I wonder if the first order cancelled out somewhere and the request rolled on to the next person who had the book....

Since the first one is marked mailed Lori, only the Team would have been able to cancel the transaction after 11/23 and before 12/20, no system action would have done it and the sender and receiver wouldn't have been able to either. There is no cancellation in the timeline copied either so it sounds like it is still an active transaction.

Thanks Melanie! I figured there would be more to it...  Barbara, let us know how it turns out, OK?

Question:

Should the book still enroute to me be showing up at all in my transaction archive yet or not? If it should be in there, it's not showing up in the Transaction archive at all. If it only shows up once the book is marked received that would make more sense.

Active transactions are on our My Account page.  Transactions go to the archive once they've been canceled, marked "received" or if the system has marked them "lost."  So you're right, the one en route to you won't be in your archive until it's marked received.

You have gold key and can order as many copies of books as you want, anytime. Even by accident. I put in a second order for a book by accident, but I noticed it right away so was able to cancel it before it was mailed. If you ordered both copies even by accident you would need to pay both credits.

That's a good reminder, Sara, about the Gold Key/multiple copies issue.  I'm not saying that's what happened in Barbara's situation, but it is another thing to look at.

Perhaps a pop-up warning of some sort for Gold Key members, saying "Hey, you know you already have 3 copies of this on order, right?" might be helpful?
