I just had to laugh when I added this book to my WL the other day.  It's Not That Innocent, by Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, and Sherrilyn Kenyon http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/details/9781416516149-Not+That+Innocent.  Although it says that the wishlist is at 492, I'm listed as 512 out of 517!  LOL Something tells me that I'll be buying this book new/used long before my number comes up!   Most of the books I have WL'd are under 200, but 512?  Yikes!  I guess a lot of people are wanting this book - including me!

It just got me to wondering how long others have waited and what your highest number is on your wishlist?

I have 3 books on my WL that I have been #1 on the WL for a year or more.  They're not romance books, two are of regional interest (one is an Oregon fishing guide, the other is a NW gardening guide), and the other is a long out-of-print children's book.  There have been plenty of books that I have WLed that had 100 or more on the WL in front of me, and eventually I have received them.  It depends on the book- the MMPBs move the fastest.  There are times that I find a book on my WL at a UBS or Goodwill and just buy it- but it's pretty rare for me to go out and buy a book brand new anymore.

I don't think I have ever WLed a book that had that many (500+) on the WL- that is a lot!  If you don't already participate in swaps in the Games forum, you might want to look into that- that is another good way to get WL books.  Just look for a swap in the genre that you want, and with any luck, someone will offer something you want.

I have a couple of books that I've had on WL for almost a year and I'm still not #1 for them. Hard to find or nobody wants to give them up! The highest number I have is 441--for Kenyon's One Silent Night and I'm #161.

Well the one I 've had on there the longest is from the day I joined 11/14/2007 it's The Royal Mess (Alaskan Royals, Bk 3) :: MaryJanice Davidson I started at #115 (yes I keep track) now at #21 so it will probably still be months before I get it.  I got in early on
One Silent Night  I'm at #6 on that one!

Hi Lesley, and thanks for telling me about the Games Forum swaps!  I think I briefly looked at that one time, but didn't understand how it worked (with "stealing" books, etc), so I just went back to keeping an eye on the "Is this in your Wishlist" thread.  LOL Looks like it would be well worth my while to go back and figure it out!  Oh, and yep, I know what you mean about the non-romance books that, although they have low WL numbers, just don't move.  I help people online at a couple of saltwater aquarium sites and have a ton of books WL'd regarding that topic.  Although a bunch are 1/1 and I may be waiting a very long time for them, I figure what the heck!

"The highest number I have is 441--for Kenyon's One Silent Night and I'm #161."

That's not too bad at all, Shari!  That's actually a do-able number - much better than 440, anyway! :)

Hi Angela!  Yep, that's taking a while, isn't it?!  Even now, I see it's WL'd at 127!  Must be a popular book!

You know what I really love is the "New Romance Books to Wishlist" thread (thanks, Angela, for the recent postings!).  It's a real kick to get to sign up for a book when it's still WL'd in single digits!  It makes me feel a little better for having gotten in on the tail end of that last waitlist!!

Lynn, I haven't been doing the games all that long myself, and I'll tell you that everyone is really, really nice there, and very helpful to newbies too, so don't be afraid to try it out!  Start with a regular elephant swap until you get the hang of it- I have yet to branch out to any more complicated than that myself, but they really are fun.

Sounds good Lesley, thanks. I really did take one look and think that it looked too complicated.  I'll give it another whirl :)

i think the problem with Not That Innocent is that the release date has been bumped at least once, and i think more than that.  (i'm #270 for it - added it in February.)  so if it's been in the system for a year already, and no one has gotten a copy because it hasn't been released yet, well those numbers sure do stack up!

i'm still waiting on books i added to my WL just after joining in February.  i just moved to #3 on one of them (was #4 yesterday!), and the other one from the same day hasn't moved much so i may break down and buy it soon.

I'm not sure the long WLs are the slowest moving--I've got a few where I'm lower than #10, but they haven't moved in the couple years I've had them on!  The ones in the hundreds have tended to move right along, and I've ended up getting several of them after a while of being patient ;)  500 though, wow!

The books that haven't been released get really long lines. Acheron was well over 500 before it was released. Some of them, once they've been published, move pretty fast, the popular MMPBs do. I have gotten several that were way up in the hundred's that came to me FIFO after what seemed to me a short time.

Yeah, fedora is right IME. I'm at 1 or 2 for several books that just never get posted.  The new romance lists, though they can get scary long, do move at least. Once the book is actually published, anyway. ;-)

I've noticed that too.  With the upcoming releases anyway.  I've been at 75 or something and still have the book pretty quickly.  Now on the out of print stuff?  Forgetabouditt:P  Those usually come when somebody feels sorry for me, or maybe grateful for something I sent them that they'd been wishing for too for a gazillion years:P

Hey Lynn - I'm 197 for that same book. LOL

I have a book on my WL that's been there over a year - a non romance.  Its just taking forever to move...

I became a member Oct 7 last year, and still have 9 WL items from then that haven't moved much, if any. I am interested in Paullina Simons' The Bronze Horseman and Tatiana and Alexander - the WL are pretty short but do not move. Maybe one day I'll break down and buy them, but for now I have a ton of other books to read, so I'm content to just wait.

I have decided to sometimes buy and sometimes wait on the WL for new releases - those WL seem to move fast even when they're in the 100s, once folks start buying and reading then turning them over. When I buy a new release, I usually read it then post it here unless it's a true keeper for me, so I'm on both sides of the WL fence. Now that I know about the WL thread here, I usually post it there and get a WL person fast.

If you're not in a hurry, it seems a lot of these books eventually make it to the WL - however, I wonder how many of the folks on the WL are still active members? I've posted WL books that go through several members's WL (at 48 hours EACH, gah!) before getting accepted. Same with some FIFO requests from me - but those I have to wait 5 days for the inactive mbr's request to time out - sheesh!! I wish there was a way to tell if a mbr is active - if they don't share their profile, there is no information, and even if they do share, it doesn't always say the last date they logged in.

Patience. It's not just the name of a book that may never be published... LOL.

"Patience. It's not just the name of a book that may never be published... LOL."

LOL Too true! I hate to admit it, but I'm sadly lacking when it comes to patience sometimes.  For instance, today I caved and bought 4 used paperbacks from Amazon.   They were all pretty far up on my WL, not moving very quickly, and I didn't want to wait.  Plus that, this way, I can rationalize that my impatience is actually a good thing - hehee!   I get the books quicker, someone else gets moved up on the WL,  the next person up gets their WL book quicker, and I get a credit for another book!  What can I say, it's a win-win :)  LOL I've got to stop though pretty soon, or I'm going to win-win myself into the poor house! ;-)

"Hey Lynn - I'm 197 for that same book. LOL"

No way.  I never would have thought that being 197 on a WL book would be such a great number until now!   LOL At least one of us is under 500!

I'm number 392.  That is a long line all right!  Good thing I'm in no hurry for that one!

I figure it will take me that long to finish reading the ones before it! :)

I have waited for a long time for some books.  I currently have a Nancy Gibson that I am 3 of 27 that has been on my wishlist since 8/26/2005.

I am pretty good at keeping up with new releases.  I will have to try and make time to post in the upcoming thread.  Since I have gone back to college part time I have been behind in reading and watching the lists.  :>(

Not That Innocent, by Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, and Sherrilyn Kenyon -  2 of 517

One Silent Night - 13 of 440

LOL Yep, no kidding!  That one's going to test a lot of people's patience.  Let's hope it moves really quickly!

"I figure it will take me that long to finish reading the ones before it! :)"

I know the feeling.  I've got a ton of books in my TBR pile and I can't seem to resist adding more to it!

Whoa, you have the patience of a saint! There's no way I could have held out that long!

No way.  Well, just remember...when you get it, read it fast and pass it on!  :-D
