I swear that every third book I read has the heroine with green eyes and red hair.  And most of the heroes have black hair.  Why is that?

Have you read a lot by the same author lately? I read all of Elizabeth Lowell's books in a row and ran into endless mustaches, grey eyes (women), green eyes (men), and some variation of being thankful for small favors in every book. I forget most of the hair colors, but they run the gamut and many of the women's tresses were compared to sunshine or some other golden thing. Now when I listen or read a Lowell book, I actively seek out a few of the things I found. Like I Spy. ;) Krentz/Castle/Quick has an aunt in nearly every book, along with dreaming in some form or another, and ferns often make an appearance. Thankfully her characters are all different in appearance. LOL

Green eyes and red hair definitely catch the eye, and they don't turn up a lot in real life (not in mine anyway--I can't name a single redhead or green-eyed person among the people I know). As for the heroes with black hair, I imagine it had to be some color different from the heroine, right? ;) And red and black go well together...

Being a Green Eyed, Red  Haired woman its fine with me!  LOL    But I see what you're saying.  Oddly enough, most of the books I've read lately had a blond haired heroine.

It's kind of an old-fashioned romance cliche. I just had a streak of feisty redheads in my books recently, which was so annoying.

You will rarely find a red-headed hero. Blondes are somewhat more common, but they do tend to be dark. I don't know if that's reader's preference or just one of those sort of unwritten rules.

I read a book where the woman was going to have a baby out of wedlock.  She of course had Red Hair and Gray Eyes.  She is concerned that if it is a red haired boy and she gives him up for adoption, no one will adopt him.  I didn't get it, but it seemed that a red haired male was undesirable.  They had to come from somewhere, and with all these red haired women having all this great sex............

I find that a lot of  author's tend to favor a similar physical type.  Being a green-eyed strawberry blonde-I am more partial to the blond to red haired light eyed herioine.  Mostly because it's easier to put myself in her character in the book.  But it does get tiring when every character looks the same.

I have yet to read a Diana Palmer book where the heroine wasn't a blue-eyed blonde.

Catherine Coulter seems to be fond of red-heads at least from what I've read.

Almost every Christine Feehan book that I've read has a raven haired heroine.

It helps to take  a break form reading one author all the time.

I lvoe a blonde hero-probably because it's not the norm.

Although in real life I tend to find dark hair/eyes sexier.

I have green eyes and light auburn hair, so I can relate:P  And dark-haried men are just yummy, IMO.

I think red hair is believed to be more attractive in women than in men (there's a chapter devoted to red headed guys in the Chelsea Handler book that it's hysterical!) so I guess authors feel like women be turned off if they read about red headed men. :)

Also, if you think about famous red-headed men, there are few that are even hot.

Eric Stoltz (handsome)

David Caruso (yikes!)

Damien Lewis (I find him hot but get it if other people don't)

The Flying Tomato (nothing to say)

D.G., surely you could have found a better pic of Eric than that!

And I fully support reds as heroines (said the auburn-haired, blue-eyed, freckled-skin Irish heritaged Dawn).

I just dyed my hair red and my eyes are hazel/green.  But I did it because I was playing a pirate in a play.

ARRRRRRRRR!!

I keep getting blonde haired heroines with almost white hair and violet eyes.  - don't know why?  More than likely because I have been on a harem streak and that is what was really rare and desirable in the middle east.

I tried doing a search for hot guys with red hair and came up with nothing.  Lots of manga pictures and mostly women.

Sean White is adorable.  My 16yr old looks quite a bit like him & I talked him into growing his hair out & having it cut like his too - & he looks so cute:P

Oh, and don't forget David Wenham (Tried to post a pic, but I can't ever get the picture in the text thing to work).

David Wenham

Here he is: he played Faramir in the LOTR movies for anyone who didn't know that.  He looks more blondish to me.

Hmm. I have no idea how I did that link. I dragged his picture over and it showed up in the editing box. But then when I hit submit it did a link which opens a page to a DW slide show.

David Wenham

ok here he looks more strawberry blonde-that's kind of my natural hair color-maybe a tad darker or it could be the lighting.  Sometimes in pics my hair looks a darker red-sometimes it looks blonde.

No, he's a red. Slightly strawberry blonde maybe, but I've seen him in things looking very much the redhead. Plus, lookit that complexion. I know it well:P And thanks for finding the pic. Somebody inbox me & tell me how to post them like that. I'm having no luck with it.

Being a redhead with hazel/greenish eyes, I tend to gravitate towards books with red-haired heroines and I seem to be more attracted to dark haired men in real life, too.
