It's been on my WL for sometime so I thought I'd check Amazon.  Prices range from $199-$349!!!  surprise  Is this a special edition?  It's only 104 pages.

Wow. No wonder it was so slow going. Why would anyone pay that much for a book?

I have no idea.  I checked Borders also and it's only available in audio format.  I really don't like audio books otherwise I'd buy one of those.  I have no problem buying new books but $199??  I posted on Kelley's Facebook site hoping I'd get an answer there.  If I do, I'll post it here.

Just checked B&N and they have one used for $349.  Only audio are available.  I'm wondering if the hardcover is just so rare, maybe limited edition and the audio is standard for this edition.  That's too bad b/c Eve is one of my favorite characters.   I'm going to be by B&N tomorrow so I'll check with customer service.  Maybe they have a clue.  The hunt is on! LOL!

Found it - should've went on Kelley's site first.  Hopefully this will help anyone else waiting for it.  I'm going to give in and download the audio:

Angelic is a stand-alone novella from Subterranean Press and includes 4 interior illustrations. It was released in two formats: 200 leather-bound signed & numbered hardcovers, plus 2500 unsigned cloth-bound hardcovers.

Angelic sold out before release. It can be purchased as an audio book and sometimes pops up second-hand. Please be warned that because it is hard to obtain, second-hand prices can be vastly inflated. Due to the short length, I don?t suggest paying more than the cover price ($20) for the cloth-bound edition. If you really want to hear the story, consider audio instead.

ETA: If anyone is interested in the MP3 format B&N has it for $8.23.  Amazon and Border have the CDs for $20-$40.

hmm. You'd think they'd re-release it into mass market paperback at least since it sold out before release. Would make some since, I think. I've yet to read anything from this author though. I think I have two of her books, if I'm thinking on the right author here, I just haven't gotten to them yet. :(

I know.  I love the Otherworld series and I'm really surprised they haven't re-released it.  I see quite a few of the Otherworld series are being re-released so maybe down the road this one will be too.  I'm impatient even though I have tons of books to read.  I'm also reading her YA series and gave the first one to my niece.  I take it your TBR pile is quite large? :)

Just a hundred books or so. But I've been trying to balance writing, blogging, reviewing, reading and sleeping so I don't really get to read what's on my bookshelves, not until I clear out my review batch. Hopefully though once I get through with all the review books I can focus more on whats on my bookshelf.

I did try her one book "The Summoning" but I couldn't get into it. But I think that has more to do with me not being a huge fan of the YA genre. There's a few out there that I like, and some I even want to try, but it's been slow going on finding them and liking them, lol. "The Gathering" sounds pretty good though.

:) It's from one of the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evaonovich. I think it might be from bk. 9 but can't be too certain.

Hi everyone,

I was actually so PISSED when I saw that Angelic had sold out and I wouldn't be able to obtain a copy. So I decided to write to Kelley Armstrong to express my disappointment about this. I would encourage you to do the same. She and her publicist need to hear it from a few more people that we do NOT want audio books. I personally hate them, and as much as I love Eve, I am not willing to get an audio book of this.

Here is my correspondence with Kelley's sister:

Me:

Dear Kelley (and Alison!),

I'm sorry to say that just now I found out that my chances of obtaining a copy of "Angelic" to go with my entire "Otherworld" series is probably highly unlikely. Unfortunately I didn't know that there were only going to be so many copies put out into circulation, and that this probably also means that a mass market edition will not be released. (Since I started buying the series in mmpb, I've been really really stubborn and waiting until mmpb release before purchasing books so all of them are the same size) Of course the book shown on Amazon.com, etc., as SOLD OUT.

I'm sure you are aware of this, and probably have heard this from other readers as well, but there are people out there reaping in a huge profit on this very rare book. (Mega huge bummer for me, because Eve is my favorite!) Currently on Amazon.com, there are 3 copies being sold at over $200.00 a pop. This is money that both you and the publisher will never see, and highly deserve to have go into your pockets.

So I guess what I am wondering is if there is any chance that "Angelic" might get another run. I'm so sorry I missed out on it; for the last few months I've been a book reviewer for luxuryreading.com and as a result of this, reading my favorite series have gotten pushed to the back burner while I help to promote other books and authors. I hope, if you haven't already, you'll consider finding a way to get more copies of "Angelic" published. I'd dearly love to own a copy of it!

Best regards,
Jen

Allison:

Hi Jen,
I've passed over your comments to Kelley
Unfortunately, the only way you can purchase a copy of Angelic is through a used dealer and at the moment (as you can see) they are selling for crazy amounts. This novelette is unlikely to be reprinted because those who bought it expected to have a limited edition.
If you just want the story, there is an audio version available for sale.
Sincerely,
Alison

Me:

Hi again Alison,

I understand the idea of a limited edition, but it is still considered a limited edition because of the way it is bound, the artwork, and also being signed. People will still treasure it and know they have a limited edition if the book were to be re-printed as a mass market. I don't believe anyone would get upset if it were to have a mass market printing run because they will still have an edition of it that no one else has.

I noticed the audio version, and believe me I'm really tempted, but I just don't like audio books. I'd much rather have a solid book in my hands. My attention strays with audio books, I often do not like the narrator and the voices they try to do for different characters, and I find the background music on some audios to be really cheesy.

And as much as I still prefer a bound book over an e-book for the Kindle or a similar device, if that was my only choice, I'd go for it.

Jen

Alison:

Hi Jen,
I understand where you're coming from.  I'll be sure to forward your comments and suggestions onto Kelley.
Thank you,
Alison

I think Alison and Kelley would benefit from hearing from a few more people about this matter. Just a heads up, Counterfeit Magic is also going to be released by Subterranean Press. I suggest if you want to read it, that you buck up and pay for the book. The same thing that happened with Angelic is likely to happen with Counterfeit Magic.

You can email Alison at this address: alison@kelleyarmstrong.com OR mail@kelleyarmstrong.com

I actually need to email her anyway. I want to know why Counterfeit Magic has not shipped...

I'm on Team Vampsita with this one ya'll.  Email email email. We need to get this book in a format I can obtain. For a decent price. And the audio version can just go suck on some monkey balls.

I did cave and order the mp3 version.  I haven't listened to it yet since I'm have the same issues as you do Jen.  I tried listening to a copy of a Stephanie Plum and I couldn't stand the voices.  I will write to Kelley and also suggest a mmpb.  I never thought of doing that. blush

I did end up emailing Alison again, and it looks like something is in the works to make it so that we can get to read "Angelic". Here is her email:

Hi Jen,
Kelley is planning something (from site: I am working with Bill (from SubPress) on an alternate solution for both Angelic & Counterfeit Magic.  It won't please everyone but, like deciding not to reprint, it's a balancing act--managing both the expectations of those who have the book and the wishes of those who don't.  I want those who have the books to know they truly have a limited, sold-out edition and I want those who don't have the book to be able to read the story anyway, to fill in that gap in the Otherworld arc.  I think this solution will do both.  Stay tuned for details on that!

As soon as I know what it is (even I'm in the dark to what this is about), I'll let you know.
Take care,
Alison

I am really hoping it's an ebook. I'd rather have that than if she just posts them on the site. I'm perfectly happy paying for an ebook. As for "Counterfeit Magic" there was major drama with ordering it on Amazon.com, so I canceled that order and ordered it through SubPress. Not very happy about it because I spent $40 on it (or rather hubby did so I could have the really limited signed edition). They were supposed to start shipping out the copies on Dec. 9th, and as of now I still don't have my copy.

I made sure to tell her I wouldn't be purchasing anything like this ever again. It has been such a hassle. I really love Kelley's books and I have been reading her since before anyone really knew who she was, so this whole thing just sucks.

Great job ladies!  Looks like Angelic and Counterfeit Magic will be ebooks.  http://www.kelleyarmstrong.com/forum/index.php?topic=30927.0

I still haven't listened to the audio book of Angelic.

YAY!

Thanks for posting this.

Also, I ordered that fancy nice copy of "Counterfeit Magic", and it shipped on 12/13. Still haven't received it yet. Not happy.

Seriously, I should have it today. If I'd realized that they were going to do e-books this soon, I wouldn't have bothered ordering this. Yes, I could sell it, but then my husband might feel bad because he meant it to be a nice gesture. So I'll keep it. I only have 1 signed book of Kelley's and it's a mass market. It will be cool to have something different.

But this whole experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth, and I will not support authors who publish through Subterranean Press. It's not fan-friendly, and the service sucks. I have PBS books I mailed USPS on Wednesday that are getting to to their destinations today or tomorrow. There's no excuse why this took so long.

Suzanne...how is it reading on the iphone?  I have an ipod touch and can't imagine reading on it!  It's so small.  And I have perfect vision.

I'm going to steal DD ipad to download/ read them...I'm sure that will go over well!  So it was doable on the ipad...I might consider.

Marie - the iPhone is the same size as the iTouch. I just opened the book and the text size looks fine. I'm sure it will be much better on the iPad.

I know they were the same size...that's why I was asking.  It just seems so small but it might be worth trying since I'd have to fight DD for her Ipad

Oh, sorry!  I wasn't sure and asked hubby :)  I didn't find it was too small at all.  I showed some people today and they were surprised at how nice it looked.
