I found it almost impossible to find "The Book" this isn't the first book that is listed here that just doesn't come up when searched. It seems recently it's harder and harder to find a book that isn't new and popular.

Please fix this. I love PBS for the hard to find books but when it takes 1/2 and hour to find a listed book it gets aggrivating.

are you looking for a book with the title "The Book"?

The main problem with searching for that is that the search results come back with all the books with "the book" as part of the title. Including the book you are looking for, no doubt. And it does not sort the search results FIRST by the best title match ... which is annoying (I have noticed this before, too). When you search for a term like that, the first results listed ought to be titles that are limited to the phrase that you searched for ... and then the closest matches that contain additional words, etc.  Instead PBS returns search results kind of randomly, IMO.

It really helps if you know any other information about the thing you are searching for .. either the author's first or last name (put it into the author field), or if you know it was published before 1980, for example, you can put that in. Or a genre .... anything will help to narrow down the results.

That is really the best way to continue when you get thousands of results back.

OR, open a new tab in your browser, see if you can find the book on a site that sorts its search results in a different better way (like Amazon) ... and then get the ISBN, and/or the author's name to use to narrow down the search on PBS.

You might want to send this request directly to PBS.  TPTB don't monitor the forums very often.  Use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page to tell them what you think.

Nobody in this forum can fix this for you. If you think there is a bug or a design flaw in the PBS software, please use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page to send it to the site owners.

"The Book" is probably one of the hardest titles to find on any book search engine because there are many thousands of books that have both of these words in their titles. I did find the list below that are currently available for swapping here. I used Advanced Search for Title contains exact phrase "The Book", sort by Title Ascending, 100 results per page, Paperback and Hardcover only.

The Book - A Compelling Odyssey Of Love, Truth and Adventure

The Book: 21 Day Habit

The Book

The Book

The Book

The Book

I believe the search mechanism also ignores 'the', 'a' and 'an' so what you're likely to get is anything with 'Book' in the title - bilyuns and bilyuns of results?

Did you try doing an advanced search putting in the author's name and the title?  Because "The Book" like others said will bring up zillions of books because it's just a commonly used, generic title.  Because I rarely have trouble finding what I'm looking for even if I search for a title that's been used by a lot of authors.  Especially if I put the author's name in either the advanced search or the search thing that comes up on the left.

Yup, the advanced search is for just this sort of problem. If a book title is only a couple of common words, you're going to get results that list dozens of possibilities. Just adding a little more info in the advanced search will give the program a chance to narrow down the possibilities greatly.

:) yes used advanced, try it. I was really suprised I even put in tyndale house as publisher. This isn't the first book I've had the problem with when I used an "exact title." I guess that's why I get so aggrivated.  I was looking up a book with concierge in the title, even with the authors name Michael Fazio I had to go find the ISBN before it would show me the book. I can't remember the names of the others but it's gotten pretty regular.

I did find the "The Book" before writing the original note. It just annoyed me how hard it was. Thank you all for the suggestions.

If you use the Book Browser, one of the options towards the bottom is to change the Sort.  By default, it is Relevance.  You can change it to title and it might help you out a little.

Concierge Confidential came up immediately for me as well, Mary.

I know I had a lot of people who thought my comment was off but I just went searching for the Fourth Inheritance book. First I tried under Christopher Paolini it isn't there. Then I did a search for Inheritance by Christopher Paolini still was not listed in search. Then I went to Amazon and got the 13 ISBN, again not listed so finally I used the 10 ISBN and it finally showed up in a search.

Just saying something is wrong with the search engine or the data base it's being powered by.

It's possible the book wasn't actually listed until your search imported it. Other possibilities are spelling errors or the search settings you're using. And of course sometimes typos or errors in the listing can make books hard to find.

Don't know what is going wrong when you try to search. I just put his name in the search field in the upper right and 3 different versions of the 4th book were in the list that was returned-hrdcover, audio and a library binding were all there.

I typed in Christopher Paolini in the search bar and came up with the Inheritance title just fine. So far I haven't had much trouble finding a title. Not sure what the problem you're having might be.

I put in Paolini and Inheritance and the book is on the second page, the 15th and sixteenth results overall: http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/browser.php?k=paolini+inheritance&s_type=b&oby=ASC&l=10&ls=10

Concierge Confidential is the fourth book when searching for Michael Fazio in the keyword field: http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/browser.php?s_type=b&k=Michael+Fazio&ti=&a=&g1=&g2=&g3=&g4=&g5=&b[]=Paperback&b[]=Hardcover&b[]=Audio+CD&b[]=Audio+Cassette&pd_type=e&pd=&r=n&sby=&oby=ASC&ts=&saved_name= and it's actually third if you put his name in the author field

Make sure your search type is set to All Books and not Posted Books.

I've been searching for Inheritance pretty regulary for a year now-because my daughter keeps pestering me for when it's coming out.  (like I can make him write the book faster).  Anyway-it came up for me a couple of weeks ago. I remember that it did not come up right away for me when I searched Inheritance (which is the title and the series name so I don't know why it wouldn't come up).  But it did come up under his name.
