I have had a book on wish list for a while, and finally i recieved that wonderful e-mail telling me it has been posted and I'm next to get it.  So excitedly I accept the request and eagerly await for the book to be mailed out.  A few days go by and still there is that "waiting on member" notice, so I just happen to check out that persons profile and see what other books they might have, and what do I find?  Nothing.  No bookshelf, no profile.  It says that that member has no books in the system.  It doesn't even say how long that person has been a member.  I know I'm still new here, and have heard other members complain about this, but how annoying.

But what I really want to know is how this book was posted by this member, when it appears that this member had no intention of sending out this book, considering that it expires today?  Do any of you ever PM the other member to see what is going on, or do you just move on and hope to get another copy of the book sometime soon?  Personally I would like to know if they posted the book by accident, or what.

Ok, I think I'm done rambling, all better now.

Thanks,

Erika

It is possible that all the books this person posted were snatched up by people who had them on thier wish list. Sometimes books that are set to expire get a response at the last minute. Maybe something came up and this person has no acess to a computer- like they had a family emergency or were in an accident or something.  I have had some books that were on my wish list and were posted and then I never heard anything from the poster. it doesn't happen too often, but it does happen.  I don't send  pm's because I am sure they got an email when the book was ordered  and if they didn't log into the site to check on that they probably wouldn't log in to read a message. If the person times out on the book you keep your place in line and hopefully someone else will post that same book real soon.

Actually, I have no books on my shelf, save for the one I posted to a member, a WL book, earlier today.  Since it was a WL book, it was automatically removed from my shelf while waiting, first on her, then on me.  So if that gal were to look at my shelf, it would show no books.  Does that make sense?  So she may have the book, but it's not showing as it's in queue, waiting on her to respond.

Tho her waiting until it just about times out is not good either, and I'm sorry for that.  Just explaining another option.   I do agree, that everyone should have a profile.  I don't like the secrecy of it.  It needn't reveal your social security number, just a way to contact someone.

Unless it shows she is no longer a member, I would hold out hope.  What book is it?

Yeah I thought of those sceniors as well.  And I always try to think on the positive and that maybe the person did not realize that it was a wishlist book, or they could not get to a computer.  So who knows.  I know I saw a post on here a week or so ago about the same thing happening more frequently to other members.  It would just be nice to know why someone would post a wishlist book and then let it time out.  But hey, maybe tonight I will turn on my computer and see that it has been accepted, and if not at least I get to go back in front of the line!!!  See thinking positive : )

Oh, and Julie it is a book by Diana Gabaldon from her Outlander series.

That's hilarious Erika, I got denied that book (outlander) earlier this week.  This gal had many books on her shelf tho so I'm certain it's not the same gal.  I hope it all works out.

Some people wait until  the last minute to accept a book request to gain them more time to mail the book out.  This could be because they are waiting for payday or they know they will be really busy and want a few more days of mailing option.  Maybe they posted it before they finished reading it and want to buy a few more days. It could be that they primarly post WL books or just took all their books to the thrift store to get them out of the house.  You won't lose your place in line if they let it time out.
