I am trying to work a deal with someone from the Bazaar and find out that the whole buddy system has changed. She requested me as a buddy, and I've clicked the response link twice, but it just takes me to the PBS main page.

I also don't like that I have one person on my "old" buddy list with a tag "do not trade" and the only way I can keep that is to request them to be my buddy.  Not.  The only other option is to delete the buddy name and loose the tag.

I was just coming to ask the same thing.  I didn't have that many buddies to begin with, but of the ones I did have, one was tagged with "do not trade", and I don't particularly want to have to go and "invite" that person to be my do not trade buddy.  Maybe I missed something...but I never heard that this was going to happen, and I do NOT like this.  Unless they are developing some other method for keeping track of members we don't want to trade with, I suspect that this is going to be a problem for a lot of people.

I have the same problem.  I have several on there because I like trading with them.  At the same time, since I have requestor conditions, I have several people that I don't want to trade with.  Personally I am just going to avoid answering the questions of invite or not on the buddy list.  Maybe I will get lucky and it will sit that way for awhile or they will fix it.

I do NOT like this either.  I had a few people I'd ordered books from who probably don't even remember me and they would probably think "Why would I want to be their buddy?"  But they always had an interesting bookshelf and I always liked to check it out, I found books that way I never would have through searching.

I just found a long thread about this on the Club Member's thoughts forum. Silly me, I was expecting any thread about the workings of PBS to be on the Questions about PBS forum!  :-)

Most people (I didn't read the whole thread) seem to be of the same opinion already expressed here.

Anthony, I would have done the same as you, except I was trying to complete a deal from the Bazaar. It wouldn't let me just do ONE, I had to do them all before I could see my buddy list.  :(  I lost my tags for both great trades and bad trades!

I had 2 members with  the Do Not Trade tag and I went ahead and deleted them. My other "buddys" were people I bought credits from, and a member who was a good resource person.
I do not like this either.

Any suggestions on where to keep a list of "DO NOT TRADE" members?

Does anyone know how this will impact our ability to give credits to other members?  Will we have to go through the buddy approval process first?

Elizabeth -- yes!  That's what I found this morning. Someone is trying to buddy me credits for a bazaar deal, and she can't do it until the buddy request goes through.  It's been a couple hours so far, and still no confirmation on the buddy request.

Whenever I found a bookshelf that I might want to order from in the future, I added that member to my buddy list. I never got around to doing tags. After reading some of your posts, I'm glad I didn't waste the time.

However,  I'm kind of new still, and decided that I would check the bookshelves of all the members I saved to that list, but unfortunately there is no link directly to their bookshelves. Am I missing something? Without tags, how do I easily check  each members shelves to confirm that I would still like to keep them on my buddy list (if they approve)?

edited to add one more dumb question:

If a member requests me as their buddy, do I have to reciprocate? Or can I delete them from my buddy list. So I guess I'm asking if to be on someone's buddy list, do both members have to have each other's name on their buddy lists?

Confused...Rose

You have to accept the invitation for you to be on another members list--I guess it works both ways.

Yes, once you accept - you'll be on that person's list and that person will be on yours.  If you delete them, your name also gets deleted from their list.

Thanks!

Could  someone help me with the question of how we look for the  bookshelves of all the members on our wish lists, if there are no longer links on this new list. It would be painfully slow to try to find each one in the directory, no?

Rose - have you went through and did all of the invite/delete stuff? The buddy list looks back to normal once you do that. You don't get to do anything else with the list until you have converted all of the old buddies.

Oh, that's true. I can do it that way. Thanks.

Rose, there is only one person on my buddy list (me!?) and there is a link for bookshelf and wishlist. I assume that sooner or later I will receive answers to my requests for buddies and they will show up there in the same way.

Melanie -- have you gotten your buddies yet? It's been at least 3-4 hours since I sent mine out, and I know at least one person has requested me for a buddy, but I still have no other names on my buddy list except me. Not sure why I need to be on my own buddy list, but there it is...

No, none of the buddies I tried to convert have shown up :( I have received some requests from others, but none of my own being accepted or listed as pending.

Are you guys clicking the Boddy List Invitations link to get to the page where you can accept the buddies that you are waiting on? Mine showed up immediately after I accepted them.

Forgive me if I'm asking the obvious, but I didn't see it mentioned in the thread.

Valli, you caused me to smack myself on the head!  duh.  I hadn't seen the link for Buddy List Invitations until you mentioned it and I went looking.

I received an email notification that I had a request and to click the link to accept. I clicked the link and it took me to the PBS home (front) page. Nothing mentioned about needing to go further for acceptance.

I think that could be spelled out a little better in the email notification!

Thanks Valli

Ditto on the "don't like it" however if there is something in the works for a Do Not Trade feature, then I'm all for the new change. I do like to keep a list of members when the trade/offer/deal has been a fantastic one but I would like to be able to attach some sort of message when inviting a Buddy to refresh their memory especially if its been a long time ago.

The only way I have to keep track of those members that I do not want to trade with is to add them to my budy list then add a tag that indicate that this person did something like not returning credit or something similar. Now if I have to get their permisson to add them to my "buddy list" I doubt if they will agree. We need a way to privately tag members we do not want to trade with.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I hate this!  For the umpteenth time, If it isn't broke do NOT try to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm deleting all but a couple of friends whom I know in RL and don't have profiles so that I can pm them when I need to, but other than that buddy list goes in the virtual trash bin as far as I'm concerned.  If I need to buddy credits for a specific reason, I'll worry about it then.

Actually, Denise, the link in the e-mail should have taken you to the invitation page so that really is a problem. No wonder you couldn't find it!

Yep, add me to the DON'T like it list!!  :(  I never used it for tags, but it was great for book deals in the bazaar, very easy to contact people, remember people, gift credits for unpostables, etc.  I just re-invited everyone on my list, but they will probably be as surprised and confused as I was getting my first two invites today.  :(
