This is book 1 of 4 and I loved all of them! Their is also a sequel Beyond the Gathering Storm that is just as good. Ms. Oke is a wonder. How she writes so many books and makes each one so special is beyond me.

I sometimes enjoy a good Christian romance novel, especially if it also happens to be historical. Janette oke is and always has been considered a very gifted author. I believe her books have won many awards, and rightly so. Her writings make me feel like I am actually there. Her characters are so well developed. I am a teacher, so I could be a bit biased, (smile) but the setting of out west, teaching in one of our great country's earliest schools, is a wide, open door for adventure and humor. This series is one I recommended to my teenage daughter as well, as she thoroughly enjoyed them, too! Canadian West is one wonderful series, and it does a fantastic job following our character.

This book was an enjoyable read. The author did a very good job of conveying what life was life for a women used to the finer things in life, and suddenly finds herself making it on her own in the wilderness. Some of the passages that reference God(written by a Christian Author)are a little too lengthy, but overall a feel good story with a strong female character.

I find Janette Oke books so inspiring and this one was no exception. The strong main character, though young and head-strong, has many endearing qualities. As a retired teacher, I especially enjoyed and admired the way she was able to help children of all ages learn with almost no supplies nor teaching aids. I enjoyed the setting--Western Canada in the early 1900's. This book was about pioneer spirit and a way of life a hundred years ago.

Nothing in her cultured East Coast upbringing prepared Elizabeth for a teaching position on the Canadian frontier. Yet, despite the constant hardships, she loves the children in her care. Determined to do the best job she can and fighting to survive the harsh land, Elizabeth is surprised to find her heart softening towards a certain member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Book 1 of the bestselling Canadian West series.

Laugh, cry and learn with Beth as she experiences life and love on the prairie? Brought up in a rather well-to-do family has not prepared her for a teaching position on the Canadian frontier. She is determined not to become romantically involved and meets a Mountie who is determined never to marry. Can Beth change his mind?
