Who adds books to list of available books?  Is it just anyone or everyone, or is it the Team?  I see a book that is not on Amazon US yet but it's on Amazon UK and Canada.  It is getting released in Sept.  I want to get on the WL but the book is not listed yet on PBS.   Do I ask someone to put it on the list?

Thanks!

I thought the site got their book information from Amazon.com (US). But I couldn't say that for certain.

Here's a tip from PBS included in their Tips for New Members:

You can sometimes add a listing (for example, for a not-yet-published book) by searching the database for the ISBN. Find the ISBN at the publisher's site and copy-paste it into the Search here - it may not return a result right away, but check back after a few hours and if the listing could be added it will have been added.  Then you can put yourself on the Wish List for that book, and be #1 in line!

I did that very thing recently, so it's true!

Sometimes it will do that...I've done searches that show no books with that ISBN, hit the refresh button on the browser, do the search again and voila...there it is!

Yes, but it only works if the book is already listed at amazon.com. If the book is only on amazon.co.uk or amazon.ca, you cannot get it added to the DB by entering its ISBN here.

The US release information will have to be available in one of the database sources PBS uses (not just Amazon, it is a factor, but not the sole source of information) for the database update to catch it. If you keep doing a search for it, the database will eventually catch it. Books released in the UK and Canada will often not get listed in PBS unless they are manually entered. It is not a good idea to list a book pre-release manually unless you have all of the details of the book because data base upgrades won't fix the listing and data edits are approved only once it is within a short time before release.

What they all said.  If you have an ISBN, just enter in your 'saved searches' and check back frequently until the system pulls it in (I was watching one that finally became available last night & I'm #1 wisher).

"It is not a good idea to list a book pre-release manually...+1 In fact I'd ask member not to enter this way, as it only messes up the data base and confuses everything.   A special 'please don't' to members who Short ISBN pre-release books...those become the biggest mess and can't be removed from the system.  This example was entered months before the release date and still has 61 wishers that will never receive the book from this fake entry (although it is available to order under the correct ISBN).

Thanks, guys,  for your info.   Don't worry about me entering the book into the database because I have no idea how to do it. LOL.

But I will put the ISBNS in my saved searches and just keep hitting it everyday.

Go Mindy!  Then when it's in the PBS system, if it's one of the genre with a 'books to wishlist' thread you can post it there for other members to wishlist!

What I did was just put the book on a saved search and checked it everyday.  Once it was Amazon US and not just Amazon UK, then it appeared on PBS too.   But I think you have to wait until it shows up on Amazon to be available here.

YAY Mindy!  Not sure if PBS pulls information directly from Amazon, or if they merely share a parent database.  But yes, if a book appears on the Amazon website, it is usually in the PBS database (or can be pulled in).
