When you mark a book as received there is a place to write how much shipping was. Why is this? I know that a lot of the books I get are deals and I either get 2 or more extra. Doesn't this throw something off if they are trying to price things from state to state???

I usually put the shipping price and add in the comments box that additional books were sent in the package. I think it's probably just something for statistical purposes.

Thanks Jane. I wasn't sure about the comment box. I thought maybe that was just to send PBS something on the person who sent you the book(s)

The comments box is for comments of any sort. I generally:

  • Note whether the weight might be higher because of extra books
  • Note when my request to wrap in plastic was ignored, but the book arrived fine
  • Note whether the sender was communicative if I initiated contact
  • Tell TPTB about particularly great transactions, such as mailing 1st class, even though more expensive or honoring a deal.
  • Tell TPTB about reneged deals

I figure that the notes will stay with the person's account, so it adds to the history of the account if it ever gets flagged.

Trisha,

The comments box that Jane is referring to is the box at the end of the little questionnaire.  There is also another box at the top, before the questions about postage and postmark dates that allows you to send a message to the person who sent you the book.  The box at the end of the questionnaire is where you would put all of the information that you want TPTB to know, like there being more than one book in the shipment, upgrades on postage or packaging, etc.

Edited because I can't spell tonight

edited again because I just realized that I misread your post about the comments box.  Sorry, ignore me.  I'm going to bed now LOL
