Start not charging for tracking??????  Hubby took a book to be mailed and said he didn't want tracking, the clerk told him tracking was now free. So I got tracking for free LOL

I think it just started with the latest update/increase so it's only been a few weeks.

Free media mail tracking was added with the postage increase on 5/31.

I buy all my postage through Paypal Shipping.  Since 6/1 I've been getting tracking free with all my media mail until just now.  I just had a 4 lb box of books and the 0.23 DC fee was added again.  Has it reverted back?

Theresa - where are you printing labels? The .23 fee was for electronic DC, so you would have to go into the PO with a pre-printed barcode label to get that price. PBS hasn't offered these labels since about March, and I don't think Post Office personnel or their POS software would know how to handle them since the 5/31 price changes.

Cathy, I mentioned that I print all my labels through Paypal Multiorder Shipping and have done so electronically for years.  Yes, 23 cents was the pre 5/31 price but I have printed many the month of June correctly without it until last night.  I'm thinking I might need to contact Paypal.

You did say that in your very first sentence. Sorry, I completely missed it. Yeah, if you purchased the postage from Paypal, I'd say you have to contact them to get it fixed.

I can't believe this response because I've sent several media mails through Paypal since 6/1 and a DC hasn't been charged but FYI this is what I got. 0.19 fee has long passed and it had been 0.23 also.

Dear Theresa Daly,

I apologize if our first response did not answer your question. Please allow me to clarify the situation.

I would have called to personally assist you but I received your email outside of our allowable call-out period.  Let me help you through this email.

The Delivery Confirmation service is free for Priority Mail printed online. The Delivery Confirmation online fee for Media Mail is $0.19 USD. When shipping with PayPal, Delivery Confirmation is required on all packages.

If Signature Confirmation is selected and purchased, Delivery Confirmation is included for free.

Although Delivery Confirmation confirms the delivery of a package, it will not show the daily location of the package.

I understand you mentioned that USPS no longer charges this fee, but this is the current process of USPS for PayPal transactions.  Rest assured that once we're updated with their process, it will take effect to your shipping label purchases accordingly.

We value you as part of the PayPal family and please always remember we are just an email or a phone call away if you need us.

It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing PayPal.

Sincerely,
Elma

This situation is becoming hilarious.  I contacted USPS about it and they e-mailed me to contact Paypal.  I did find some info in an Amazon forum though that said the total amount that Paypal charges is the correct new Media Mail price without a fee for DC.  Apparently their software won't let them charge the correct new Media Mail postage rate with a zero DC fee.  So they just reduced the postage amount (instead of increased to the new rate) and left the 0.23 fee.  I'm not sure why as First Class through Paypal always has zero as the DC fee.  I sent this info back to Paypal who told me they are escalating it to a supervisory level to verify if my info from the Amazon forums is correct.  Can't wait to get this installment.

paypal is free for media mail. If you look carefully at the breakdown of the fee they are charging, the cost of postage is 23 cents less that it is supposed to be and the 23 cents is there but the sum of the postage and the 23 cents is the correct amount for what the postage is supposed to be.

I think 1 lb media mail is 2.72. What paypal is doing is charging 2.49 for the postage and adding the 23 cents which brings the total to 2.72. It does look like you are being charged 23 cents for tracking but they are manipulating the postage charge so the net result is the same as free tracking. 2.72 net.

I figured that out and you figured that out but apparently customer service at Paypal and at USPS don't have a clue.

I was going to post the same thing ... the postage that Paypal charges in total for Media + Tracking is correct (the Tracking is free), but it's listed on the receipt as if you are still paying the 23 cents extra.

I had to go look up the amounts when I used Paypal after the postage rate change.

Typical business procedure!  LOL

Someone in accounting figured out how to get their system to charge the correct amount overall, but no one in customer service has a clue!!  I love it!
