The strange world inhabited by those afflicted with schizophrenia or multiple personality syndrome is virtually impenetrable. By illuminating these convoluted worlds, both books make major contributions to the understanding of mental illness. North began to exhibit manifestations of schizophrenia as a child. Desite her acceptance of "voices" and "visions" as reality, the reader can easily identify with her as she struggles through her schooling. She graphically descibes her breakdowns and traumatic hospitalizations during her college years and in medical school. Her eventual success in conquering her disability and attaining her goal of becoming a physician evokes a sense of exhilaration

Disturbing sexual content, which might bother even otherwise impeturbable readers. Reads like fiction, which required me to constantly remind myself that this was supposedly real.

Very powerful and riveting. Heart breaking but true story. It was so powerful I remembered about this story on Oprah in 1987 while i was only 7 and was still looking for this book. Just got it a week ago. But it is that memorable and moving.

My hat is off to Truddi Chase for surviving the severe child abuse described in this book. How she managed to write such a convincing portrayal of so many unique personalities is in itself an achievement. She creates a personal mythology of her own internal world. She uses her personal created world to cope with the external world and support herself without being hospitalized. She was a very intelligent and strong woman. Truddi died in March of 2010 at the age of 75. What she wanted to show us through her story is how devastating and destructive child sexual abuse is on children. If one isn't convinced after reading this account then one can't have a heart. I would definitely caution those who've been sexually abused due to intensely triggering scenes. If you have been diagnised with dissociative identity disorder, her description of how multiple personality works in one woman's mind could give you insight and language to speak about your own condition. Sybil chose to integrate her 16 personalities but Truddi's the Troops decided against integration for very complex reasons. I recommend the book but the reading level is high, content difficult to understand at times, and some imagery very triggering. R.I.P. Truddi. You certainly deserve peace for all you lived through.

This book is principally about severe childhood abuse. The unique part is that it's told by the various personalities now inhabiting the subject, named Truddi Chase. Of course as you read you wonder if this is all made up, but that becomes less important. The book's value is as an introduction to what is it like to be a multiple personality. Whether the book portrays this condition accurately or not is beyond my experience, but I did think it was an interesting, if at times grueling read.

I picked up this book for free at a garage sale and began reading it without really looking at the front or back covers so I didn't realize till a few chapters in when I noticed that it was 'reading funny'. That's when I discovered it was autobiographical. Knowing this the book took on a whole new meaning for me. It was an amazing book considering that 92 'people' wrote it. I'm glad she found the help she needed and hope that she has found some peace in her life.

This is a very interesting book. It is hard to read at times but knowing she wants her story out there to help others is remarkable.

This is a phenomenal book about dissociative identity disorder/multiple personality disorder. This copy is older so the pages have yellowed somewhat. Still an incredible read.

Rabbit is a woman with 90 personalities, all arrived at in order to survive. The first page describes it as an autobiography written by 90 authors - her personalities. Forsome reason the book fascinated me when I read it and I bought my own copy. Since then I've never read it. It delves deeply into the pain this woman endured and escaped through her multiplel personalities and I found it difficult to cope.

Very interesting, makes one want to take action against childhood sexual abuse. Very different from Sybil. Very many viewpoints, even from abusers themselves.

Awful awful awful book. I threw it away after the first couple of chapters. Why would anyone want to read about such terrible sexual, emotional, and physical abuse? For what prurient reasons?
