Hi ladies, for those who enjoy reading erotica novels, and books from Elora's Cave. Where besides here do you usually find these books?? I'm asking because a friend of mine really loves these books but doesn't want to spend $18.00 per book if she's only going to read it once.  I've told her about Paperbackswap, which would be great for getting rid of what she already has, but warned her that the newest issues will be hard to get her hands on with the big wish lists for such books. Where else could she find these books at discount prices?

The WL lines actually move pretty steadily.  The EC books are almost always WL but they move constantly. I get most of mine here and then sometimes I just bite the bullet and buy them new.  I get a lot of them from playing the games.  And if you hang out on the forums you are likely to make buddies and get some posted directly to you ahead of the line. Sometimes Ellorascave will have sales.

Sometimes they have them used on Amazon for a decent price. THen ther'es Half.com and Ebay.  If you joine the Borders book club you can earn pts and get coupons.

I have a subscription to http://www.booksfree.com/. that is where I rent my books that is on my wish list here. booksfree is alot  faster than this wish list.

I only want to read the book, not keep them.

Booksfree is great. It pays the postage to my house and pays to return them with postage free envelopes.

When I get new books from booksfree I delete the ones off my wishlist here.

I have almost read every one of Lora Leighs books that is on the wish list here, usually has 200 members waiting in line.

Here is how much I have save by going through booksfree

How Much Have I Saved

You've rented 62 titles with a retail value of $827.80.

You've paid $110.57 in membership fees.

Your total savings to date is $717.23.

There is also AbeBooks.com and Alibris.com. You can find decent prices there too- I've gotten a couple OOP books at Abe Books for a much better price than Amazon.

What Mary said, and also what Jane said. I have read a ton of wish listed (here) erotica, that I got from booksfree, and some were so bad I'm awfully glad I didn't spend a credit for them. Some on the other hand, I went and bought myself a keeper copy. booksfree is a great way to try books you know nothing about. well worth it, to me!

I buy stuff used from Half.com.  Or, if you join in the games forum, there's always and erotica swap going on.  I've gotten some good stuff that way.  Plus, you tend to make friends via the games forum and post books back and forth to each others' WLs.

I hadn't heard of booksfree! I usually check used on half.com and amazon.com or use a coupon for Borders.

some do the virtual box or whatever it's called in the games forum.I've never done that before though I've considered it.just seemed too complicated to figure out at the time and you dont' get your books back..I think it's like swapping and if hte person doesnt' want to put it back on the box I think they put something else in in its place but since she's not wanting to keep them anyways it might work for her.

eta: bookdepository.com has some good prices though not sure what publishers they carry in erotica.I know I've seen lora leigh and sarah mccarty and the prices fluctuate..Thursday morning one of mccarty's was 28% off but by that night it was 1% off...big difference.

If I didn't have such a huge TBR I'd look into the Booksfree thing.  Sounds like the Book version of Netflix.  But I have around 800 books here so I'm ok with waiting on the WL here. Then there's no pressure to read it by a certain time (unless you offer it in a game).  Plus running low on credits here inspires me to read a bunch and get the posted.  But it sounds like it might be good for her friend. She could still join here-send out her books here and WL the ones Booksfree doesn't have.  Then she has Booksfree to keep her in reading material while she waits or the WL lines to move here.

The Lora Leigh lines move pretty fast.  She also gets offered a lot in the games forum.  There's really only been a few books I've had to wait a long time for and they were mostly out of print. But I get probably 10 WL offers a month and that's from FIFO.  Because my TBR is so huge I don't pay much attention to the Is This On Your WL thread or make an effort to have people post multiple books to me.

Check some of the smaller presses, if she's not locked into an author.  Samhain, Wild Rose Press etc.  Sometimes they will have sales.

Well at the cheapest plan where you have to received and send 2 books at a time: you'd have to do 4 books a month to beat the price of a credit.  My hesitation of it would be that once I have a time pressure to read a book it becomes work to me and then the last book that I want to read.  It's a mental thing I know.

If I ever lose my TBR pile it would be something to look into.  I personally just can't justify it for myself because like I said before I have close to 800 books already.  So I don't mind waiting on the WL a bit. But it sounds great for someone who doesn't have a big TBR. Would be a good way to offset PBS.

Believe it or not, I've had the best luck at library sales:P  I don't read them myself, but I grabbed quite a few at the last two sales I went to & passed most of them along here.

Try http://www.addall.com/.  It is a place that searches various book stores and then lists the books in the order of the least expensive (cost of book plus shipping).

Mary, believe it or not, I have over 1000 TBR and also am on the 9 at a time plan from booksfree. I get about half of my reading material a month from them. No it doesn't help decrease my TBR, but it also doesn't make my TBR  increase the way PBS used to. Sometimes I send books out unread (to PBS members) because I know I can get it from booksfree whenever I am ready to read it. At least when I get books from booksfree, I will read them, instead of putting them on a shelf for a year or two. So I keep my queue ordered to send me the books I want now. I have 500 books in my queue and there are at least 500 more on my RL (here) that booksfree has. booksfree is similar to netflix but they use Media Mail, not first class. For folks in the west, expect a long shipping time. For me (in PA) I am very satisfied.

If I kept getting books from there I'd never read my TBR books.  I would feel the need to read as many as I could from there to justify the fee.  I don't mind waiting on the WL here.  The only time I post books that I haven't read yet and want to read is if my library has them for free.  But to each her own-whatever works for you.  I've never had a problem getting a steady supply of erotica books from PBS and I would say 90% of them come from FIFO.  And it's only recently that I took the time to fill up my WL.  For the 1st 2 yrs my WL was only around 100.

Mary I do limit myself and try not to read more than 12-15 booksfree books a month. If I never read any of my TBR I could double that. But I do want to read the books in my TBR also! Even so, my rental cost per book is $2.67-2.13 depending on how many books I get a month. Can't buy them for that. Cheaper than a credit. So it works well for me. Some of the books on my WL, which have not been released yet, I will probably take off and just get them from booksfree....many of the books on my WL are not available at booksfree. So both sites are beneficial to me, in different ways. Only PBS has the games, though! I love both sites!

Oh and I also snag far fewer books from the is this on your wish list threads, too, because of booksfree, so I use less credits.

OMG!

I just went to booksfree and found at least a dozen books on my wish list...looking at prices and pacakges and it's really reasonable considering that S & H is paid to and from your house....definitely signing up. Thanks for the tip!
