This book is packed with information for the armchair traveler but as with any book of this nature it needs constant updating. For example: The new $21 Million Dollar Largo Library just opened on July 31, 2005. We also have a beautiful new library in downtown Clearwater.
Like everywhere else, traffic is a problem and there is constant construction of roads and bridges. Expect delays and inconvenience.
I've lived in Orlando, Saint Petersburg, and Clearwater. Clearwater/St. Petersburg is a truly beautiful area but with any major move PLEASE visit the area first and in different seasons. You can spend most of your time in summer in air conditioning in these major areas--forget open windows. Don't got outside without proper clothing: we now have West Nile Virus in the area. Hurricane season was not much to write home about for years but 2004 sharpened our hurricane preparation skills considerably. There is absolutely NO WAY to get everyone out of the area when a major hurricane is headed our way...the officials do an outstanding job but just know you could get caught in one.
After serious study of this book, I believe I live in one of the best areas in Florida. We have beautiful white sand beaches and so many activities you'll have to make choices. Welcome to Clearwater.
