Ok, so people tell me I'll like Modesitt. But I don't know where to start. Just for taste purposes, I tend to prefer stuff that well written, but I do occassionally enjoy a Mercedes Lackey one-off. I am a "hard" scifi and traditional fantasy fan. Love Hodgell, used to love McCaffrey, hated-hated-hated the 4 sequels to Pawn of Prophecy by Eddings.

Any suggestions on which Modesitt to try out?

Thanks.

Robin

Start with his Corean Chronicles, just the first 3 though:

Legacies, Darknesses, Scepters.

After that, your mileage will vary.

Hi Robin!

I personally preferred "The Spellsong" series.  It starts with "The Soprano Sorceress."   I like a series to build from each book so that I can really get into it. I fell in love with the character of Anne and her problems. The others are fine too, but this one is my favorite.

Just be aware that the Spellsong series has a HUGE twist midway through the series that drove away most fans. Read reviews on Amazon for the first 3 books before investing any time in it. there will be spoilers, but I think it would be worth the time. I kicked myself for not listening to my bro about this series :-)
