A book I requested, now "enroute to me", was marked mailed on 9/3, but there are no details after that.  Could it possibly be taking this long for the in-transit details to start showing up?

If they didn't use DC then there would be no intransit details.  It'll show a check mark if they used DC.

Even if they did use DC it might not get scanned until it hits the final post office which is why it's called Deliver Confirmation.  Any scans enroute are just bonus. The only required scan is for deliver.

You need to have some patience to survive on PBS.

OK, I guess they didn't use DC because there is no check mark.  Most of the 48 books I've received so far have taken less time than this.  But I do understand the need for patience, I just have to learn it LOL.  Thanks!

Media mail has seemed really slow recently.  Books seem to be taking a really long time - both books I've send and that are on their way to me.  For most of my time at PBS, most books arrived incredibly quickly, most under a week.  Suddenly, books are taking two weeks +.

I agree about media mail being slow recently.  I mailed a book on Aug 21 on which I did use DC.  It was going from NJ to Nevada.  It went to California fairly quickly, but then it was scanned in Jersey City NJ  on 9/1.  It hasn't been scanned since.

9/3 was only 8 days ago, with a holiday weekend in there. That really isn't that long at all.

Nora - I am not patient either - but this site is teaching me.   I found it weird because I sent several books the Friday before Labor Day and on Tuesday they were being marked received - they were going all over the place.  Now the book I sent 40 mins away (different state) took 5 days.  go figure.  This is my new thing if DC is being used I check it out with the USPS tracking.   It usually has the info quicker then PBS but it gives more details.  PBS shows that it is enroute --USPS site might list that it is at the unit or has finished being sorted or delivered.  I am generally more concerned with the books I send so I use it more for that purpose --never really concerned about books enroute to me - I just figure they will get here eventually!

I mailed 2 books on Aug 22 and they still aren't marked received.  :-(  I actually mailed several books (and DVD's) that day and they all took a longer time than usual.  In the case of my 2 books, one of them was a small book that went 1st class.  I'm betting it's lost.  *sigh* Bound to happen eventually, I guess.

The USPS is closing a lot of distribution centers and post office so I magine media mail, since it's low priority is going to get slower.

I mailed one WITH DC (and PBS postage) on 8/31 and it hasn't been scanned anywhere yet....I mailed another book the same day and it was scanned the next day and arrived at its destination--which was about 800 miles further away than this book--long ago. One thing I've learned (besides patience!) is that there is no rhyme or reason to how things work with the USPS!

Yes, well, as I mentioned before I do see the need for patience, now I just have to learn it.

Media mail has been quite slow lately.  I had one book on its way and almost got to me and the USPS rerouted it back to the sender which sent it back out.  Anyway, it took over 3 weeks to get to me.  Another one I had ordered at the same time took almost 3 weeks and as far as I know there were no rerouting problems.  There is a reason it is called "Snail Mail".
